Customer Review

This 8 John Barry Bond score certainly knows not to convince with high recognition value at the level callow hymns or leitmotifs. The classic Bond theme is completely missing. That may cause some legitimate criticism, but you should not forget about it, to reflect on the work and beyond any unfulfilled expectations a look at the music itself, and of course to throw the underlying film.
An "Moonraker" (1979) are the ghosts. Born out of the competition with Space-blockbusters like "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and of course "Star Wars - A New Hope", "Moonraker" James Bond should in the wake of the giant "The Spy Who Loved Me" on even the SciFi genre bring eye level. However, it was less set on Star Wars Action but in many of the space scenes the spirit of "father figure" "2001: A Space Odyssey" to feel (albeit very weak). This slow motion of course you can not fast-paced action music to impose and thus to the slow pace of the scores from this perspective should not be surprised. Very heavy strings with subtle metal insert (horns and solo trumpet) comes here certainly not at the usual times jazz and funk oriented Bond Feeling. But this can never be sufficient to "Moonraker" deny any quality.
A very lyrical title track, excellently interpreted by Shirley Bassey, initiates a soundtrack, with several shorter, rather introverted passages ensnared his musical highlight "Flight into Space" and with a gentle bossa Variation of Main Themes and two not completely unknown Action Cues in "Boat Chase and" Cable Car "a little spice adds. In my eyes, John Barry has created something here, the quality of which is revealed only the concentrated audience. One may tend particularly the shorter pieces in superficial durchhören easy to pass and as inconsequential dismiss Underscore. But even if, for example rhythmic does not happen too much, but a dense atmosphere, which always includes the indigenous, earthly scenes moment with a spherical reference character to the space theme of the film is produced.
However, it must be zugegebn that you can not quite escape here and there the impression of a too smooth polished sound. Even the subtle chorus in "Flight into Space" may not be to everyone's taste. Overall, less intense than most of Barry Bond premiums and in some respects simply works differently this score for me but for the most part quite good. Only the disco Variation of Main Themes conclusion I never liked ...
With regard to Barry's musical development is to be noted that "Moonraker" is a first step toward large-scale, romantic composition towards works such as "Out of Africa" or "Dances with Wolves".
