Tangram (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Chris Franke and Edgar Froese had first broken through after the departure of Peter Baumann alone, however, supported by Klaus Krieger on Schlagzeug.Mit Steve Joliffe (on "Cyclone") experimented with woodwinds, violin and even singing (!), What with little enthusiasm has been added.
In the 1980 published by Virgin "Tangram" is the first time John Schmoelling this with.
With him there was a return to pure electronic music, how was the usual majority of Tangerine Dream.
However, the instrumental fleet had significantly risen, resulting in more "modern", klinischerem sound to; the melodies were catchy, Schmoellings influence made itself felt.
The album consists of only two long tracks, which build up slowly, longer Sequencer Parts, surrounded by floating keyboard sounds make for a dreamy but never boring mood.
The melodies are not profound, provide in connection with the rhythm of lines and the own, spherical sound but for a sense of hearing, which would be typical of TD at this stage.
Had many a fan from the start / is "Tangram" too polished, overproduced, not slanted enough.
For me and many others it is a guide to float away, just lulling (in a good way), without lacks tension.
Parts of the album were used at the concert in 1980 in East Berlin, which was published in part under the name of "Pergamum" ... and for me that's aufwühlendste what TD have ever released.

Recording quality and sound of the record of the past are OK.
The later published CD in 1995 replaced by a remastered version.
The remastering was done by well-reputed Simon Heyworth at a high level.
The dynamic range is quite OK.
Heyworth used the elaborate "Super Bit Mapping" (SBM) system from Sony and underlined the fact that he is serious about the quality of meinte.Und remastering you can hear that.
And since he has not exaggerated with the modulation, the name "Definitive Edition" is literally for this CD to nehmen.Mehr goes as sonically probably not.
In his urge to old classics of the band and his solo work completely remix, partially or even completely re-record, Edgar Froese has also not stopped before Tangram.
Under the name "Tangram 2008" (new recording) can be the zulegen.Oder let it, like me.
