Captive (Paperback)

Customer Review

A historical novel that was inspired by a real fact. It is very successful, Margaret Atwood hollow in the head and Grace unconscious as few writers can do. Ange victim of events or manipulative demon impossible to know with certainty. And yet one knows more about Grace as many literary characters. In fact, you learn so much to know through the novel at the end, it is difficult to leave so she seems familiar.

In shading, research on the human psyche and the beginnings of psychoanalysis and the limit so tenuous with spiritualism are brilliantly led and truly exciting.

However, the shift of the plot of a sordid murder to fantasy somewhat displeased me and seemed very artificial.
This still remains a great novel.
