We thus find the rogue Michael Haller defense attorney always surrounded by his usual cronies (his former biker investigator, his ex-wife, his Latin driver, his 2nd ex and daughter etc ...). This one has opportunely launched in defending the owners evicted from home by their banks (Connelly portrays America as "small", victims of the economic collapse of the loans (the subprime crisis causing the "Credit Crunch").
One of her clients become the movement of anti banks flagship finds himself involved in the assassination in hammer blow of a leader of one of these banks - Haller therefore responsible for its defense and shall demonstrate that it is the victim a plot to neutralize his voice had become embarrassing for the powerful.
Both warn you, if you are not particularly familiar with the concepts of American law style "reasonable doubt", "general objection", "hearsay", "irrelevant" or with strategic subtleties of lawyers during a trial, we risk being bored!
Almost all of the action is in the courtroom, and the action essentially revolves around the trial record; the courtroom novel exercise is not successful this time because too confined to reviewing the file, with few surprises, and one begins to think that Connelly himself was bored firm in writing this book.
We say that the outcome will justify the long hours of readings, past not to lose the thread of the conflicting arguments of the defense and the prosecution.
Las! Without giving anything, I confess that I was not "glued to the chair" ...
In short novel technical, complicated without much soul, without action and with standard characters "lawyer show" American (gruff but fair judge, District Attorney pugnacious and surly cop hating lawyers ...) .
Fan of the first hour of Connelly, I am obliged to note that it is his part of a large "soft coup", which lasts for some time ...
Nothing new then, recycled tasteless, leaving a taste of boredom after reading.
To refresh you, I recommend my latest find: Fantz Delplanque novels, young author of funny and well-written thrillers: From sound on walls or Elvis and virtue.
Good reads all @
