Panasonic TX-L55ETW5 140 cm (55 inch) TV (Full HD, triple tuners, 3D, Smart TV) (Electronics)

Customer Review

*** To purchase decision:
A few words about why I ended up just in this model: Firstly, I already own some Panasonic products (HD Camcorder HDC-SD99 with 3D conversion lens, Blu-ray player, surround sound system), which is why I me a Panasonic TV for best "interaction" with my other Panasonic devices hoped. First, I had set myself on the TX-L55DT50E, which is slightly more expensive. However, I found some bad reviews regarding. The image quality (poor black levels, etc.) to this TV, and also this device uses shutter technology for the 3D display. Since I personally prefer but the polarizing filter technology, I ended up at the TX-L55ETW5E. In addition, with this TV, the reviews were somewhat better on average.

*** Delivery:
The delivery took place exactly on the desired date in the desired time frame with the "DHL Two People Service" (where only the DHL Transport took over the depot - the final delivery was made then by an agent on DHL shipping).

*** Construction:
The TV must be screwed in front of the first use only on foot. A picture on the package suggests that one should keep to the TV perpendicular to the foot. For this you would need at least three people, because it is absolutely utopian, that a person's television holding while another person furled the screws - particularly since the foot does not have any bearing surface for the TV, which means you would have to keep the TV really "free-floating" stable while loudly cursing workers tried to screw the screws. In the instructions then there is a short phrase that you should install the foot in a horizontal position. I would suggest for most likely to put the TV on a bed, as it is the largest horizontal soft surface well, which is available to everyone.

The television is on the heavy foot was relatively stable, but I would still advise you to secure the stand additionally because such a big TV nunmal quite a high center of gravity has (there is for it on the rear side of the stand a screw).

The cable routing is solved quite intelligent. The power cable is connected at the center of the TV, so that it can be done behind the pillar downwards. The other terminals such as HDMI are on the side, but it is a reusable cable clamp, with which you can "get" the other cable behind the pillar so that they do not runterbaumeln on the side of the TV (you realize how ugly that is, if one sees before him times). The side HDMI connections I find fundamentally very pleasant, but they have the small disadvantage that often quite stiff HDMI cable already strong "bend away" must, so as not sticking out to the side.

*** Commissioning:
The commissioning went very quickly out of hand. Especially if one has a cable / satellite receiver, the example is connected through HDMI, you can skip the channel scan - in the case is expected to enter the wireless password still be the most tedious. Who first skips this point also impatient, should have the TV after first turning on in less than a minute into operation.

*** Sound:
I had seen some bad reviews Reviews tone before buying the TV. I myself am no audiophile hi-fi freak, but will have to confirm that the sound is really bad anyway. He is a little "tinny" and "flat" and one has the impression that he is somewhere from quite far away. In addition, the televisions are quite close to me (
*** Picture in 2D:
I must say that I am absolutely amazed by the power of the TV image. All my expectations were exceeded by far. My first test was the 2D Bluray of "Avengers", when I jumped right to the big fight scene at the end of the film, and the result would have conjured almost Friend tears to my eyes. My wife was similarly enthusiastic, and we both had the same first to comment immediately: namely, that the image is so vivid that you could have almost a spatial "3D" impression. The picture was absolutely crystal clear, without even the slightest artifacts or blurring during fast movements (as we know from old LCD TVs). The colors are brilliant and radiant. I should say that I previously had a plasma TV, which is why I regard the black levels, am very spoiled and had prepared myself for some disappointment. This did not materialize. I was from the deep black, which represents the TV very surprised and impressed.

The next test for 2D was the television. We receive ARD and ZDF in HD (720i) via cable Germany, and the image quality was also very good (though of course not as perfect as of Bluray). What surprised me most, as well itself still looked the SD channels. Here I was really prepared for the worst, because the TV for SD with a couch-distance of 3.5m is actually too big. For me, it was definitely good enough, and I have but to say that the picture is of course a little "blurry" on closer examination and will not be enough the greatest quality fetishists. But this is not a problem of the TV but simply a deficit of image source. But what I noticed only at SD channels was that I with fast movements sometimes had the impression of a certain "re-drawing". However, this occurred rarely.

In addition, I have the picture briefly tested with a DVD (the space battle at the beginning of "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith"). Again the picture was again spotless, and I noticed no negative motion artifacts on.

Two small drawbacks I have to do: First, the image of the TV a bit was too dark in the default setting, which of course in the menu may still readjust (which as far as I could see it had no negative impact on the black levels). Secondly, the TV does not have such a large viewing angle, such as my old plasma TV. If you go a little to the side, the picture is quite fast and matt "milky". Panasonic speaks of a viewing angle of 178 degrees, which I think is not the case but the best of intentions. But since I never really watch TV sideways extreme, that's not a real problem for me.

*** Image in 3D:
I am an absolute fan of 3D and have been tested extensively by the same therefore the 3D function, with the following Blurays:
- Avengers
- Underworld Awakening
- Sammy's Adventures
- Toy Story 2
Again, I was extremely impressed, and my expectations were far exceeded again. The first test was in turn the fight scene in "Avengers". Here I was pleasantly surprised by the immense plasticity of 3D display. Although the picture is of course automatically dimmed by the polarized glasses something lost none of its color brilliance. Again, there were no artifacts Clouding or other problems with fast movements. The next test was "Sammy's Adventures". This film is considered by many as the reference film for 3D because there is hardly another film with so many intense popout effects. I was not disappointed here. There are at the beginning of a scene where the camera of a flying seagull follows, and one has the impression that the bird would 30cm dangling in front of TV. Next came "Toy Story 2" to the train. Here the 3D representation impressed already in Bluray menu with a beautifully tiered depth display. I've looked at about the first 30 minutes, and even during fast action scenes, there was no display problems, and the bold colors that have all Pixar movies together came beautifully clear out. Finally, I put no great expectations "Underworld Awakening", and although the film itself is relatively mediocre, I could not tear myself away it thanks to the excellent 3D display and looked at him without interruption from behind to the front through.

None of these films I've seen (ie sitting in the couch-distance front of the TV) when viewed normally never even begin a "ghosting" (ie double vision). Only when one relatively far moved aside, the 3D effect collapsed and you could see both fields. There are also often the criticism of the Polfiltertechnologie that characterized the resolution now being displayed (because left and right images are displayed simultaneously in alternating scan lines) reduced. This should actually produced a lower overall image blurring and result, but at least in my subjective impression was not the case (although, of course, from a distance
You can regulate the strength of the 3D effect via a menu item. The default setting for me was already perfect. A higher setting I found in my tests to be unpleasant, but this is likely to be very subjective, and perhaps there is also a certain habituation effect. For movies with weaker 3D effects I will certainly play around with this setting again.

There is also a 2D> 3D conversion, 2D films or TV automatically to convert to 3D. I think this function can be forgettable, and it will probably only be offered so that Panasonic can mark it as available in the data sheet. The effect is to a very weak and the wrong objects are often the other pushed forward. This is understandable, since it is of course impossible to calculate out correctly from a 2D picture 3D information, but this is the feature gimmick.

*** Internet / Smart TV functions /:
I had from the outset no great interest to the Internet features of the TV, because I have an Internet-enabled set-top box, so far as the Smart TV features for me were not buying criterion. I still angetestet YouTube, and I found the user interface while visually appealing, but rather unintuitive. Most worked what I wanted to do more by chance and with much Rumprobiererei. The instructions did not help - the word "YouTube" appeared not once in the guidance, ie it is nowhere described as the use of this feature to work. This is also the case for the other Internet functions.

If you have found a video, then it is presented in very good quality (if it is in HD). I noticed, however, very negatively to that video often times "hooked" because the TV did not comply with the loading of the video (with other devices in the living room I have never had problems). Apparently represents the videos no large buffer memory is available, which has the smallest connection problem immediately affects the video, and also the built-WiFi module seems to be rather slow (although it four out of five "link bar" indicated). But positive I have to say that one could view 3D videos from YouTube (eg in side-by-side view) on the TV in 3D. But you have to manually switch to 3D and in some videos not explicitly specify the mode in which the video is present.

I also have some other apps on the device tried short while I noticed negative as slowly as starting the Apps is (any current tablet is many times faster) and how unstable the apps are partially. From time to time an app crashes, and often does it so far that you have to turn off the TV then completely (ie one has even the on / off switch on the back press), in order to launch the app again can.

*** Interaction with other Panasonic products:
Who does not have a Panasonic products, this section can of course skip.

I could connect my Panasonic camcorder using an HDMI / Mini HDMI Cable, and bring so directly the camcorder image on the TV. This worked well with the 3D Conversion Lens. The TV automatically detected that the camcorder has contributed a 3D signal and switched to 3D mode. Of course that's just a nice gimmick, but it's a nice demo of the 3D effect (which, however, is not very strong at the Panasonic conversion lens). You can also play back the videos on the camcorder through the HDMI port on the television, in which case, however, the menu of your camcorder is displayed on the TV, which seemed pretty clunky. Beautiful to insert the SD card from the camcorder to the TV was. Within seconds, the TV is the video clearly arranged. Here, 3D content is marked as such and also play properly. Very positive was the fact that the television has no problems with the Panasonic (semi-) proprietary 1080p50 AVCHD format. Videos that have been filmed in this format are represented in really terrific quality.

I was hoping that I could use to be very good TV remote control also fully valid for the Panasonic Bluray Play ((DMP-BDT220), but this was not the case. There is the standard keys for controlling the . playback (Play, Pause, Stop, Fast Forward, etc.), but unfortunately there is no key as "Top Menu" or "Popup Menu" Conversely, the Blu-ray player though buttons for volume control of the TV, but not for changing - would otherwise my Bluray Remote Control completely enough. Here Panasonic has in my opinion simply not thought along. Surprisingly, it turned out that the now 6-7 years old remote control of my Panasonic surround system worked best as a "universal remote control Panasonic" I really was able to control all the important functions of the various devices. Here it is an advantage that Panasonic clearly does not change the remote control code also for a long time.

*** Asides:
A little whining at a high level: if you put the TV on "Mute", the mute icon appears permanently, ie it does not disappear after a few seconds. That could be a bit annoying if you use a connected surround system for movies and the sound of the TV always has to settle down to "zero", rather than simply put him on "Mute". What is bothering me a little that the television is not noted that AV input at last switch was active. He jumps apparently always automatically to HDMI1.

But a really negative criticism is the advertising that appears briefly when switching on the TV at the bottom of the screen! This can be switched off in a somewhat hidden menu item, but in principle it is absolutely unacceptable to me that a TV that I have "paid in full" additionally pops up advertising.

*** Summary:
Although I have some minor criticisms, I have to because of the really fabulous picture performance give five stars (if Amazon would allow, it would be 4 1/2 star, in particular because of the poor sound and because of the advertising banner on power). Every time I turn on this TV, I look forward to new's about the brilliant picture, and I can not wait to see more films in particular with the very beautiful 3D display.
