So start looking elsewhere and has shared the Garmin 3598. It has (at least on paper) to me important functions. Unfortunately, it did not convince in practical use:
Unpacking / neudeutsch "unboxing":
Pretty, flat Navi. Much cable. And the corrosive antenna cable with the two suction cups is attending. I knew no more from TomTom. But eine3 super bracket.
Commissioning:
First of the Navi installed on the PC and the Garmin Update SW. At the very beginning has me the software indicates that the space on the Navi is insufficient (What is this please?) Can plug it in and I either a memory card (but not at hand) may waive or to countries or unused data. So I reduce the country (Central Europe's enough and thick), but get the message that the language support the complete card must be installed. Well, then I choose just to uninstall the unneeded languages. After the beginning of the good three-hour update Marathon. Afterwards the Navi speaks unfortunately only Danish or Dutch with me, because I am well but uninstalled a little too much. After that I then spent a few rounds with updates, configuration and subsequent installations. The Garmin website provides other information as the update on the PC to install software (which otherwise is much better than the TomTom). Tip (hindsight is always wiser): Before updatet the Navi first time outdoors into operation until it has its satellites found. Then do not forget after each restart, the settings made with difficulty. Tip 2: Before the newly downloaded update software for updating the Navis uses only times the software update themselves (otherwise they absolutely not up to date).
Live Services
To use the Live Services is a Bluetooth connection to the smartphone and a corresponding app on the smartphone required. Setting up the Bluetooth connection was seamless, hands-free and Navi were connected in parallel with the cell phone. The live traffic services shall be covered by the purchase of Navis. Unfortunately still have to pay extra, the speed camera (20, - Euro per in-app purchase).
First exit from Darmstadt to Frankfurt:
The Navi took about 12 minutes (I had already given up hope) in order to find the necessary satellites. But then a pretty view and the navigation works. Generally Garmin has very respected here on usability (praise). The Voice Anna is OK for me.
After the first few kilometers (we are approaching the A5) then begins with Anna Verkehrswarungen. Accident on the A5. Construction on the A5. Accident on the A5. Construction on the A5. Accident ... well, and so on. Approximately every 20 seconds a message. This number of messages for the same incidents, but just now closer. And what is really on the A5: Almost nothing. Taken the sites are there, others do not. And none of the accidents. Anna shut up!
In Frankfurt one may enjoy the 3D representation of various buildings (z. B. Messeturm). Not really necessary nice, but for me. Meaningful statements ("at the next traffic light turn right") and nonsensical ("behind the next skyscraper left") alternate. The aim is achieved easily. But why is my phone so warm?
Return: First the traffic reports of "everything" turned down on "important". Anna still reports any crap. And then I accidentally bending times from wrong. Recalculation of the route may take 20 seconds. When the result is there, of course I am again somewhere else. Recalculation. It's probably best if you stop right so that the navigation does not have to hurry unnecessarily.
Home: mobile is warm, the battery is almost empty (in total for a 2 hour drive.). Battery statistics tested: It is the Garmin app. That's a No.
All in all, I'm spoiled by the live Navi functionality of TomTom. Everything integrated and no phone required. Plus super precise information. Since Garmin is still miles away from. For the operability of the Garmin is significantly better. And what do I do now? I'll send the Garmin back to Amazon and order me back a new battery for my old TomTom 1005. The best Navi the world has ever seen ...
