A colleague has the corresponding L-lens, and it has borrowed for a weekend. The photos have become great, but I have but then decided due to the lower price for the version without L. Now that even the ordered "non-L" lens has arrived and I tested each one weekend both lenses, I could see the following:
- The "L" comes with a sun visor, in the normal "EF" it must be even bought extra (about 30 Euros in addition) again.
- The "L" has also an image stabilizer. However, this brings for macro shots so no great advantage, especially if you already use a tripod.
- Both lenses are processed prima, the housing of the "L" looks somewhat-quality and durable.
- Apply the normal EF lens is lighter and handier.
- The autofocus is carried out at two as USM. He is in interaction with the 50D fast, quiet and accurate.
- The Bokeh seemed at the "L" version maybe to small nuances better, but also the lower lens is very nice.
- The sharpness is excellent in both lenses.
- Vignetting occurred in two lenses on the 50D to none.
The biggest surprise was the Lens Correction under Lightroom with two lenses. Whether this option is checked for the profile correction or not: you can see no difference in picture! In other words, since there is correct nothing worth mentioning. Impressive ...
Which Lens is one to buy? Anyone who values uncompromising quality, good feel and an image stabilizer uses the L variant. All other order this lens and a sun visor, and are pleased with saved 300 euros. Significant drawbacks in picture quality are not to be feared, the photos inspire even without "L" on the case. I put in an opportunity a few sample images.
