One feels a lack of knowledge of the workings of the thriller or drama. The characters are too cartoonish for my taste. This gives the impression of a writer who darkens to black. A bourgeois who wants slumming through a writing exercise. I agree that the style is good, but a beautiful package is not everything. This is sorely lacking in humanity and ambiguity. And emotions. Black is black, full stop. Very disappointing. Those who want a good black with background should turn to Peter May (The island bird hunters) or Ellory (Only silence).
