For lamp itself:
-... The processing works certainly cheaper (in Gen 2, the body was almost as if he were made of glass The interior had a metallic appearance with the iris can be seen 100% plastic immediately Efforts by the manufacturer to cut costs, is obvious. No satin pouch more, no (full) Operating more in the package (online only).
- The power supply in the iris is (as mentioned often) fix mounted and somewhat bulky.
- The luminance is de facto more or less identical I really can not see any relevant luminance difference..
- The Iris has a much smaller "dimming range". The Gen 2 can be dimmed almost to 0% brightness, when Iris, this is no longer possible (I guess lowest setting is approximately 50% luminosity).
- The iris is slightly smaller - virtually.
- The color in the iris is slightly different, I would say basically a bit warmer (which you notice, of course only if you turned on the same number of lamps)
For remote control:
- The new FB is slightly more compact. I do not necessarily mean that it acts cheaper - even more robust (because of the tight fit of the battery cover). In the dark it is whether the phsyischen buttons / knobs easy to use. However, touch is a bit "high-tech" -mäßiger and also has the advantage that you can choose the color that you want to select, immediately and directly. The new FB you have to rotate until the desired color appears - although you can then adjust sensitively.
- Serious drawback: It is no longer possible to speak individually with the new FB lamps !!! For example, several Iris (or other SmartLink lights) joined together - joining is possible without any problems - so all can be changed on / off / dim / Color simultaneously. It is impossible, a lamp simultaneously green, to let others light up red or to turn one, while the other fails !!!
- Connection with FB of Gen 2 is possible without any problems (also, the FB are "copied")
- The new FB also has - apart from the lack of dial-up function - fewer features: So the Gen 2 FB gave electronic click-sounds for various functions on its own. The keys were all LED-backlit. In the new FB there no longer signaled acoustically, also only a single LED.
- A Fiebton stepped obviously only with (some) Gen 1 devices.
By the way: One or the other complained that interference with router or DAB receivers occur. Could not find at least I. In addition, the ability to change the frequency is (this - and more - functions can be found, however, exclusively in the online manual available).
Most serious drawback, in my opinion, that can not be selected individually with the new FB lamps. So, functions are limited when operating multiple LivingColors products to all red, all one, all dimmed or all green. I have a feeling that Philips wanted one hand, save production costs, on the other hand make themselves not too much competition in their own house (you google times Philips Hue - because different setups are easily possible and, of course, individual lamps can be addressed - apart from the Bridge, Hue is basically nothing more than this lamp here -. but just much more expensive supposedly can even also SmartLink products as the Iris are here integrated into Hue System).
Seen in isolation, the lamp is worth three to four stars. In view of (but better a lot) predecessor and non-possibility to address individual lamps (this makes this system only really makes sense if several lamps are operated and are lit all rooms), I forgive still scarce three star. Rejoice to all those who still have an old touch FB - they can also buy several iris bulbs respond easily individually. So it's up to the FB, not the lamp itself.
