Concept convinced me

I too am one of those who have long considered whether this console is something for me.

I had changed from the N64 to the PlayStation (1 + 2) and later for XBOX360.
I was then "adult" games and a less colorful concept than that which I offered Nintendo.

Since me mitterweile on the other platforms little responsive, I have accessed after much back and forth with the WiiU.
An important reason for me was that for the XBOX360 and PS3 are many games come out, who know how to convince with its graphics, but I no longer respond from the game concept, and control of the story.

Much is first person shooter-heavy, playing in front of a creepy ending backdrop or has to do with the mystical beings who seek my life.

Of course here games like ZombiU, in my opinion, here the play / control concept raises but already clearly from similar genre titles on other consoles from. As a consumer, I have to be able to choose to feel more at Nintendo, instead of looking for games to have not only to do with violence.
The healthy mix is.

Nintendo certainly has not reinvented the wheel here, but I think they put here deliberately against the mainstream and do their own thing.

... THE CONSOLE: ...

The console and the individual hardware components are well packed and make a quality impression.
The main unit itself is relatively unspectacular and goes (in black) an optical symbiosis with the other devices on the television.
In addition to the slot for the games discs located at the front under a flap, a USB port and a slot for SD cards. This is required for the old Wii mode, since the WiiU is backward compatible. At the rear you will find next to two further USB ports, the connections for the sensor bar and the power connector. By means of the sensor Leite can use optional Wii Remotes.

The USB ports can connect an external hard drive as a memory expansion, which is detected when you turn on the console. The WiiU has to have its own storage format, which is why you will be asked if you connect a hard drive to format only. As the USB (2) terminals not capable of delivering sufficient power, I run my 2.5 "hard drive (Western Digital 500GB) per Y-cable. This gives them enough power and works without problems as a storage medium for games from the e-Store.

As so often written, the gamepad is surprisingly light and fits comfortably in your hand without looking cheap.
The display of the pad does not have as high resolution, but that does not particularly bother me because I play primarily on the TV.
The battery life is 4-5 hours with relatively short, but that's not what makes me howl now.

When the subject graphic as end users can only subjectively assessed. (Played or even Youtube) For what I've seen so far, I like the graphics very well.
Compared to its predecessor Wii a perceived quantum leap. I think all fans of the upcoming Nintendo house brands may be surprised here enjoyable.

The operating system in its simplicity and its features, such as the Mii verses and the e-shop has convinced me immediately. At the very beginning want to load an update, which is about 1 GB and took about 1 hour at my console. But I knew this before and have done in the meantime something else.

Meanwhile, is available for the console a firmware update in version 4. If the new firmware installed, you can now significantly faster close applications or change from these to the main menu. Now also USB keyboards are supported for entering what you're surfing the net is perfect example. Screenshots from games can be posted directly on websites (eg forums). Before updating the WiiU browser no PDF's mind what he does now.
Another gimmick allows the user when started downloads from the e-shop (or updates) the console simply turn off. The download works on request in the standby console. In the system settings you can now choose to 'recommended' software / demos to be installed automatically, as long as you want to.

The game Nintendo Land is the console that I as an individual player but can not find so interesting. It is just a mini-game collection which demonstrates what you can use the new hardware. In addition to the console I bought the new New Super Mario Bros and was impressed from the first minute. Sure, you know Mario, you know Mario ... but you can tell by this reissue, that the developers have gone to great lengths. It is also long been one of the few games that has given me in its simplicity so much fun that I have this really played out to the end.

The Pad lies comfortably in the hand and also the controls have (almost) all have a good tactile feedback and are not spongy or creaky.
Only the pressure point of the two analog sticks would in my opinion may be a little easier. In addition to directional pad, analog sticks, action buttons and shoulder buttons, a "TV" button located at the pad, which conjures up in press a simple touch on the remote for the TV display. The TV model is set up in the system settings of the console.
Once set up this menu is independent from the console and can also be accessed if the pad and the console is turned off.

While playing one is able by means of a "home button" call an intermediate menu on the pad. The current game will be frozen while the exact spot and you have the option browser to surf the Internet, or to visit the Mii verses to post contributions with screenshot and to the other players to read. The post goes either via text or by drawing by pen, which is hidden on the back of the pad housing. If you want back in the game, the button is pressed again and one is located at the exact spot at which they had stopped the game.
The Home button also fulfills an alert function: If you have friends, for example via the Miiverse service tied to other players and someone from your friends list write a message, the button lights up in blue, signaling your messages. Also friend requests are signaled in this way

The surf itself is very fast and Youtube for example is Ruckel / displayed correctly.
Also the e-shop works well and is set up appealing to me.
Only the lame servers of Nintendo sometimes detract from the otherwise good impression.

Depending on the game in the display pad is individually equipped with functions, which are from the gameplay depends.
In "New Super Mario Bros. U" you can use as an alternative to the TV screen such as this in Single Player mode.
This one is independent if someone wants third prefer television.
Will play in the other it for example the inventory, a map or a scanner displayed. (Eg ZombiU)

A further feature is the camera above the display. By means of the camera you can chat with other players via video chat, as well in some games like Nintendo Land is this used to secretly record player pictures that are displayed at the end of a round to the amusement.

The console starts this new in a virtual Wii mode and behaves there as the old Wii. So you can play all your old Wii games on the WiiU.
If the update is installed, you can launch the console directly in Wii mode. By holding the "B" button on the controller is booted immediately in the Wii operating system at startup.

... Conclusion / PERSONAL OPINION: ...

As already described in the preface, it was primarily emotional reasons why I bought the console.
I wanted to feel what I knew of at that time still have again and this Nintendo has completely fulfilled for me.
Now meanwhile, among others games such as Zelda WW HD and Super Mario 3D World have appeared, it makes me simply great fun to use the console and am looking forward to what there is to come. The wait for the exclusive titles was truly worth it for me. Games in the quality I'm used to from Nintendo.

I am also of the opinion that one should not compare with those of other manufacturers Nintendo's consoles and Kozepte.
I see it as a stand-alone game experience ... just like with my PS1, 2 or XBOX360.
As then, the PlayStation 1 came out, I said this more than my N64. It was another "gameplay" and other games that I liked better, although the N64 had more power.
Then as now, is for me, however, the fun in the foreground and since Nintendo has for me back in the lead.
