When I chose the boxing, I had the opportunity in these boxes to hear the Musical Fidelity M3i and twice as expensive Cambridge. The Cambridge was lively, the M3i but very cautious. I was already a bit "posh" to.
NAD C375BEE, the worst enemy of PMA1520ae would also be an option. The real price (not EIA), however, was much higher and the complaints about the volume control hold has been going on for years. In addition, the NAD could maybe a little to look strong (depending on music and boxing) and that would be more likely to have uncultivated. Nevertheless, the NAD is certainly a fantastsiches part.
The whole "minimal" -High-end history (Atoll, M3i, ...) is also sparsely furnished me somewhere. If even a TV film has no spice, then you would get no tone controls, you can turn off wonderfully when Denon as NAD.
Marantz has I do not have. Since I have exchanged ever before 22Jahren a. A buddy about 10 years ago. The bass presence I felt at Marantz as very meager. The heights maltreated ears. Also the Yamaha is already overkill have at the heights, so the AS 1000, but I could not hear myself.
I had hoped that the new Denon plays not worse than the old, because I did not know how the new Denon are now matched. The old Denon old as dynamic and strong bass.
The difference to PMA1080 under the same local test conditions:
- Attacked a lot more. Especially for large concerts come each player stronger over. So still clearly dynamsicher. Coarse as fine dynamics.
- Is superficial
- The slightly metallic sound and the S-sounds are no longer existent.
- Basses come crisp and dry over but not loud.
- Female voices resound now warmer.
Even at loud volumes are the part from only little heat. The volume control has been maintained. So from 10 clock position is Disco operating ;-) I have and however never had the volume control is a problem. Inasmuch as some have complained. Likewise, discrepancies between left and right channels, I can not subjectively notice (without instruments).
A (unnecessary) bi-wiring terminal is attending. Something I've never seen in an amplifier. Have taken this the Oehlbach Silverline 2.5mm2 SPOFC for highs / mids and an old monitor with 4mm2 Cable OFC for the bass range. A little Voodoo must be ;-) Okay, high frequency sounds to be so staying on the outer skin of the individual strands, hence a silver already seems advisable to me. When bass it does not matter, because only one section, because the bass driver violently pulling power. But then there are many theories wiedersprüchliche.
And to the many forums in which it is stated that there would be no sound amplifiers because of Freqenzgang was the same for all amplifiers. What are the only theorist. The tell something had 25 years ago probably bought only Japanese units because this significantly better than the readings showed better-sounding English. Yes, and ... what can I say: The technical data from the new PMA1520ae are worse than those from the ancient PMA1080, the sound but vastly better. So much for Therorie and technical data.
Now, if 2 people are the same size, both weigh the same, the same waist circumference and the same shoe size. See the then absolutely identical from ??? So what are you doing with the frequency response. More attack or less metallic sound and sibilance can see the frequency response? Here you go, then dreams next time. Or will hear test it by myself, inasmuch as you even still a reasonably functioning ear you :-)))
So my neighbor 72jähriger could clearly explain the difference between the old and the new device. As if he had read it from the audio. If he hears this in the age, then it must indeed be as mighty sound differences, right? According to measurements, the theorists would certainly have chosen the old Denon. Here you go, there may still be needed. But for me no longer. The new is the old superior to half the world, so far as the rest of the chain that can also dissolve. Cheap boxes have nix to seek it. But would have no problem as a Canton Reference to hang it. Even I could not imagine.
If the two predecessors from 1520 (1510.1500) and all look the same almost from the inside as from the outside: The progress is at Denon is not visible, but audible.
The Denon is a good all-rounder with high enthusiasm. For those who prefer restraint, is the place to go wrong.
Addendum: Since many customers complain about the wow and flutter in volume control feature Denon advertises a ultraprecise volume pot. I think it's a 27mm encapsulated by Alps. The magazine Stereo has measured only 0.2dB deviation predecessor with probably the same pot. I myself can not detect synchronization deviation between left and right channels.
If you have a problem because, as seems quite a lot, then I see it as a conversion event warranty or conversion case. That's botch and can not be! The volume control is perfect and if not, then calls in and asks Denon repair or exchange it during the 14-day withdrawal period in order to have you get a perfect part ;-)
Cloudy, with 3 or 4 dB deviation (as here are some writing), I would have a really thick neck, and would not keep the device! That's not in this class and provides me da a product defect.
