the first day, I made a comparison test between this goal and my old Canon EF 28-70mm used for almost 20 years on my EOS 600 (silver). One thing not only fun ... but more than rigolotte, is that with the Eos 450D I had to acquire, with its 12.2 megapixels CMOS, I immediately made a series of 10 photos f5. 6 50mm !!! The result was absolutely spectacular from the start: Good old 28-70 literally crushed the poor EF-S 18-55 IS, which many magazines said it was of good quality and had a good dive (of course, the next to the price !!!). Then, after this series of 10 photographs, taken under identical conditions, on both Ojectives, I made a second attempt! considering accessible, equivalent to the two focal! ... (Always identical conditions, expo time., Brightness, etc ...) ... It Barrel big surprise! mirobolant! Not a single photo that it could claim 18-55 approaching the 28-70 !!! Relatively speaking, the EF 28-70, has neither USM or IS system, and autofocus makes a nice little sound ... but it, nonetheless an exemplary precision! ... Of course this goal, 28-70, is no longer that opportunity! ... But its good old reputation was not usurped !!! Following this, I decided to get down to business, and put me in search of a goal at reasonable price but giving me a report much higher !!! And that's saying something ... So my choice fell on the Canon EF 28-105 USM II ... which of course put on my 450 D does not really offered me "wide angle" ... however with his incoming 28mm Focal he m 'offered the equivalent of a conventional 50 mm! And while there, again with a build quality that has nothing to do with this objective that EF-S 18-55, and a very reasonable price, I obtenai a better result !!! almost equivalent to the EF 28-70 and at all openings! or focal!
Of course, to the tariff, the EF-S 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 is acceptable, but do not expect any miracles, on a 100% magnification on screen, it is nothing more than an optical input range. it's okay to start, certainly yes. But personally and my opinion is worth what it is worth, but it is sincere, this new objective, remained in the box !!! Stranded. IT will obviously makes no justice to a greater than 10 méga_pixels sensor. When you can, try to quickly find another goal. Just an opinion, like any other. Because if it's OK for you, 10x15 on a small LCD screen, so it will go. This target will illusion.
