Small update after about 2 weeks with low lighting and can not imagine much higher values still, too bright and the good black level otherwise you throw overboard. Absolutely no Clouding! I've read that several panel are different light Stark. I believe that my one of the strong. Some have posted values of 70 on forums and since the eyes would burn away me;)

For 3D I have the almost identical settings. The backlight I have increased by 10 points and the brightness I have increased to 50. Important! Truemotion also here to OFF, as this technology caused too many artifacts and these stand out especially with 3D special.
The settings are mainly looking for 3D Blu Ray. Tested with films like Meridia / Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and some 3D trailers as Wreck-It Ralph (brilliant 3D effect) and plan (makers of Cars).
On the whole, the picture for me is still relatively naturally without the WOW effect to lose. Expected but not super natural skin tones or realistic colors! It's a very intense image with eye-catching potential. For the TV program but I would prefer other Settings Games and animation & action movies look so great. Picture settings I've made mainly with Burosch test images and a really great extra on the Blu Ray of Merida. On the disk there is a tutorial with many test images for all parameters, even 3D. Provides all times so and decide at the end whether you like the way Dynamic Contrast / Color.
Would I go about FEEDBACK LOOK !!!
--- REVIEW ---
I have to be able to submit the honor the 100th review on this TV. I have to hammer the price of 699 - here slammed at Amazon and an advance, I regret buying a second. I use the TV for lack of cable and antenna connection only with a PS3 for Blu Ray's and games via HDMI. Since I switched from a Samsung UE40B6000, I was already used to a pretty good picture. Despite the LG47LM640S could surprise me positively in each area.
The leap from 40 to 47 inches was very clear! About the really great picture quality, the 99 writers have been extensively typed sore before my fingers. It was striking to me that the black level is indeed good, but not to the Samsung surpasses with the same technology. At first I thought it was a disadvantage. But I'm so only noticed as swallowing very extreme black levels image details. Is paid for the vermeindlich better black level by extreme Abdimmung the background LED's when a dark image reproduction over the entire image area. Especially in dark to very dark images of the Samsung does have a somewhat deeper blacks, but also swallowed virtually every detail. For quick scene changes from dark to bright images, the image Fieng so to pulsate with the brightness. At night particularly striking. Only now I realize what I had missed on image details. Turn off properly can be the the Samsung does not. A realization that has moved me to rethink.
The way to me now almost perfect image was not an easy and a long to. In forums I have as many template image picked out and tested settings. Try it yourself, I wanted it because of the myriad controls initially on not by reason. Too big is the "danger" complete control in the wrong direction. Especially as the menu items have tripled compared to Samsung. Try through a lot, and I mean 4 and more nights I groped me the perfect image for me each one to two hours. Values such as brightness, contrast, color, etc. I have set using the great test pictures of Burosch.de and optimized. Principle for contrast, brightness and lighting: as bright as necessary, as dark as possible.
But for the following parameters I have tips:
* Local dimming should be set higher than deep, otherwise the image sometimes (as with Samsung) is much too dark. Depth is optimal!
* Lighting should without 3D mode not higher than 50 - have 60. In the dark and semi-dark rooms satisfy even values between 35 - 40. Higher values outshine and dazzle quickly. I was so used to flash pictures of my Samsung and had to wean myself. Have this every night 5 points turned from the backlight down until I'm very happy with 20 without 3D. Try please times these low values. Seen real insider tip, because I have such a low value at yet no other reviewers. It has much the habit in the course of time. TV is so much less stressful.
* The menu item: Dynamic Colors and Contrast: appears at first glance beautiful flamboyant and colorful, but create an unnatural picture. I have both on depth. Optimal is not. Mir gefällts and in conjunction with the low backlight is at least the dynamic contrast sense. Check it out!
* For the lazy among us: energy saving mode (least backlight on eigende needs adjusted, otherwise it will be too dark) and adjust it to the screen on Intelligent Sensor produces after a few seconds a surprisingly "good" picture. Ifs go fast does enough.
* From the expert settings: white balance, and color management I advise for inexperienced fingers to let them. Here, only an expert on real improvements provide. I've even after long try no or minimal differences in color intensity may find. In addition, Google is there not produce optimal settings. Especially since not every panel is equal.
--- --- 3D
First of all: WOW! I like the 3D of LG very! I find it even better than the movies. No crosstalk, ghosting, not too dark or stressful.
* The PS3 has initially prohibited the 3D playback with me. The reason was that the PS3 has to recognize first of all that it is now working with a 3D TV and this you go to the display settings and let the PS3 in a car Mud mixing scan specify the settings. From now on the PS3's 3D-Ready.
* Tip: Turns 3D, going in the settings (which incidentally complete image settings can be adjusted separately again on the 3D mode here), and catch you here a little time with a 3D movie and a still image with many image planes! I have the "Ralf reichts" Cinema Preview taken on the Merida to Blu-ray. The LG can produce a great 3D image. If I remember correctly, were the settings initially not optimal and had to be adjusted for perfect 3D enjoyment on the pitch, angle of view and the personal preferences with respect to the image depth etc. Otherwise there are different image planes blurred areas that may be not focused by the eye and irritate.
* In 3D games developed that I have gambled until now: Killzone 3 / Super Stardust HD / MotorStorm 2.3 Demo / Batmann Arkham City / Grand Turismo 5 / Uncharted 3. The best 3D effect has something unexpected Super Stardust HD! Very sharp image. Great pop-out effects. For me, 3D reference!
* 2D -> 3D conversion in games: the image gains depth and show the HUD protrude pleasant. So the ammo display, map displays etc. are exactly at the level of the screen glass, while the remainder is happening on TV. I'll call it aquarium effect. A real substitute for developed on 3D games, it is not in the long run. Off but you missed the great image depth quickly.
* For 3D technology: For my taste, this is the better one. Shutter glasses I find, and I'm actually very insensitive to something, very tiring. Such "shortcomings" as the higher weight and the current required for the glasses I'd not seen as a disadvantage if they would offer the better technology in Goßen whole.
* The Polyfilter glasses used by LG are easy to swallow and are less light to worlds less tiring for the eyes and head. Movies of 2 - 3 hours can be watched through effortlessly. No fatigue.
* The Halved Horizontal resolution with 3D playback is not recognizable with proper pitch. I sit a little over 3 meters. That's pretty close but not a problem. At least nich at 1080p images. As the current generation of consoles in games creates meinstens only 720p resolution, the image is quite blurry and out of focus. Only games support 1080p tolerate halved horizontal resolution well. For BluRay movies, it is also no problem thanks to 1080p.
--- DESIGN ---
* I like the TV incredibly well. Off it is with its smooth surface and thin design without large protruding frame edges, a piece of jewelery for every gamer's room / living room. At the point Feel free to have a look in the users throw Gallery. I have uploaded two pictures there for this purpose. I can not comment on such trifles but really negative. Since I take back what I put in front of the manufacturer and simply get clear;) After a short time you have internalized the key layout and uses the TV blind.
Meanwhile, I have discovered a great button, with which you can save yourself a lot of detours from the main menu. The Q.Menu Button (4.Knopf from below, right) which allows you to access some important settings, such as screen size, screen mode, energy saving settings, etc. AV mode quickly at the bottom. Practical!
--- User Interface (menu) ---
* Clear, easy to learn and fast to use. All applications that are connected to the Internet to win any speed records, but they are not annoying slow (DSL 16000). Since I have little expected, and get some more.

* Something negative rate is the effort that you have to invest in order to set a really great image. This is partly offering this television to the very extensive detail settings. I've played around for 2 weeks now and am super happy. The patience brings certainly not with everyone. Experience Required sure only a small percentage. On the other hand, one can thus actually turning every small knob which I liked personally. Out of the box herraus the picture is not recommended.
* In the product description images are shown by Amazon, which promise a few mm dunes frame. In fact, a 1 cm thin frame is after the overhanging edge projecting into the picture, one can not see in TV is switched off. Nevertheless, my frame design like it very much because still pretty thin!
This had very gestöhrt me by my UE40B6000 with his perceived 7cm frame. 3D comes so incidentally also a little better advantage!
* A right off I would have welcomed. Standby power nobody needs! ;)
* By chance a dead pixel in the lower right corner, I noticed. Not too bad, I still have 2,073,599 pixels (1920 x 1080), the work and after about one meter is to be of much too small to see.
* The station sorting is a bit tedious, but since you do it only once, that is for me not significantly and is no penalty. Knew not how to make the less expensive with a remote control.
* On the subject Clouding and other "defects" that occur frequently in edg LED TV's:
After I had really bad luck with my Samsung and still exchange even after 3 times Panel annoying Clouding was visible this time I had a little Glücl and have a well though not perfectly illuminated panel caught. Only when absolutely Wi content image is slightly visible at 100% illumination. Passes the test but no EDGE LED TV! However, it should also worse cases when LM6xx give.
Update: I have now with my Settings NO Clouding even when completely black screen or dark images with bright spots in some areas.
* Piss to LG do not but desswegen still a point of criticism: many are sold as well as the Edge LED TV with the "feature" local dimming. Even the menu you will find this feature. Which describes the ability of the TV's in certain image areas to be able to dim the backlight locally. So at Full LED TV's almost perfect contrast values are generated. The LM6xx models the LED backlight. Only at the edges of the frame On one hand, energy-saving and flat constructible on the other. But local dimming not currently rules the TV!
UPDATE: I was made aware that this dominates TV LED Plus! Thus, it is apparently still possible to dim its subregions though not as with local dimming in the proper sense. You never stop learning! I have the feature now time itself can see. When a still image with bright logo in the center the screen edges were slightly darker than the surrounding black environment of the logo. I call this feature times Area Dimming.
- CONCLUSION ---
I was initially of the image quality quite impressed but not convinced but with a little patience you can with the myriad Einstellungamöglichkeiten tickle the most out of the LG and it looks pretty darn good and fun. The fudging with Local Dimming and the slightly thicker frame I suppose at such a great overall package back and give it 5 stars for Top TV to acute conditions.
