Before buying this camera I have long weighed the pros and cons of comparable cameras with this. Why did I eventually resorted to this and not to a Nikon D7000 / 7100 or Canon 60D, I would now like to explain below:

Now for comparison with the Canon 60D:
From the image quality are both nearly at eye level, in this case no purchase decision.
While the housing of the K-5II is made of metal and a magnesium alloy, which feels extremely valent, the housing of the Canon is very plastic nuisance and moreover not sealed against dust and splash water.
In addition, I was personally not at all with the use of Canon clear why this was eliminated very quickly.

Not so with the Nikon, particularly the D7000:
The D7100 seemed already to more comparisons with the D7000 the charge not worth as poor image quality has not changed much except for the increase of 8 million pixels, use, video quality is also little and better autofocus was not playing the fundamental role for me.
Between the Nikon D7000 and the K-5II (or even the K-5) is a number of common features determine what made a decision difficult.
The picture quality is almost completely identical, which is not surprising, since both use the same sensor. The general features also hardly different but finally made a few extra features of the K-5II and the menu felt better lying all the difference. With these extra features, I mean for example, the image stabilization in the housing, which not only makes it possible to stabilize with any optics to photograph, but also in conjunction with a GPS receiver mitschwenkt during long exposures to allow longer exposures without undesirable distortion of the star.

To the camera itself, I can draw the following conclusion after almost a year now owned:
The picture quality is very harmonious - good optics assuming, of course - and even up to high ISO noise regions remains low and the high detail.
The autofocus is, in contrast to its predecessor, the K-5, even in low light yet extremely precise and fail.
The large and bright viewfinder and the true color and bright display on the back are well suited to finding motive. Here, the Pentax also plays the way a supportive role when using the manual focus, as these acoustic signals when the center focus point is at the focal plane.
Generally the operation is very intuitive (remarkably similar to Nikon) with a variety of dials and buttons (which clear and well-structured, but also very extensive is) the menu you need only rarely.
Battery life and connections are standard in so far as this class.

However, one drawback remains for me, namely the camera stores in my opinion too slow. I have used an SD card with a write speed of 90mbit / s, yet she needs after a shooting a long time to save. This problem, however, is not very difficult to weight, because the buffer is large enough to also be able to make a decent number of images in series.

Finally, can I highly recommend the camera, it's a great working tool and has me never (not even in the rain - thanks sealed camera and lens) left in the lurch.
