I especially recommend reading the introduction of the book, which explains the philosophy behind the Raspberry Pi: a tool especially dedicated to education!
Otherwise, the book is well thought: installation, use of Linux, fundamentals of progammation in Scratch (for children) and Pyhton (for larger), excluding a non-negligible part dedicated to GPIO ports to electronics! There is even a chapter on welding. This is a truly comprehensive guide to begin and to explore all facets of the Pi Rasbpberry.
On the software side, the book proposes the creation of a mediacenter (in Rasbmc), dun dun web server and desktop system.
Personally, japprécie especially chapter dedicated to troubleshooting and diagnostics on the Raspberry Pi. When we started, this is where we will soon be blocked in case of problems, and this is also the area where the information is more difficult to find .
