I have the Canon EOS 1000D now for about 2 years and am quite satisfied with it. The size is ok and handy for me. The plastic case makes a stable impression. The display has a good quality. The battery lasts a long time. The picture quality is very good for me. The 10 Megapixels are sufficient, all I need. The new EOS models so you can see that more MP are not really better. Since I have the 1000D, I am no longer satisfied with the image quality of compact cameras. The functional scope is large and sufficient for me. The only thing missing is the spot metering, but I have not missed out. The exposure must be often korregieren slightly below freezing, so that it fits. The focusing is fast and accurate. The 7 AF points I find perfectly adequate. I use anyway almost only the central cross-type sensor. The Live View function I use very rarely, the contrast AF is quite slow compared to compact cameras. The scene modes and auto mode, I can not say much because I only work in the AV and TV mode. Overall, I would absolutely recommend the camera. Strangely, the camera IS Kit is now more expensive than at the time when I bought them.
Update 23/09/2011: Now a further year is almost gone. And? The camera gives me still a lot of fun.
