Leo Lyons and Joe Gooch started 2010, the project Hundred Seventy Split to be able to move outside of the corset Ten Years After and be musically free. Meanwhile, one has completely renounced TYA and 2014 released another album under HSS. I find the whole a bold step, since one with an unknown name took off again and the world-famous TYA left behind. Musically has done well the two, because the two HSS albums are strong as an ox. Now there is a live album by the band. First of all: There is hardly a genre where live recordings make more sense than the Blues Rock. The bands live mostly a different dynamic and can give free rein to their virtuosity. HSS occur as Power on Trio and play very tight. Joe Gooch is definitely an exceptional guitarist, technology, speed and feeling combines. Leo Lyons on bass plays terrific and, with Damon Sawyer on drums the foundation for Joe's strings arts. The live album is wholesale of numbers of HSS plus some songs of TYA. In addition to the classics Love Like a Man, Good Morning Little Schoolgirl and I'm going home that are still Fifty Thousand Miles Beneath My Brain (rarely played here in a great version) and Bad Blood (from the '89 album About Time). King of Blues there are both of TYA and HSS. Moreover with Tennessee plates still a song by John Hiatt. I had the opportunity for a longer drive to listen to the album at a time and was thrilled. The band sprayed formal defense. Whether fast or slow, Gooch has always the right feeling. Mnachmal he reminds me at the rockier songs even a bit of Frank Marino. What also is not clear is that the new songs keep loose the quality level. I would even say that these make the live album so great. So, every Blues Rocker should have this album because HSS is in the genre with the best of what there is. By the way, the band will soon be with us on tour.
