I find here 6 flawless clean and open produced songs that carried away sometimes, sometimes beguile and simply layered and well up are terrific. The extraordinary quality of the musicians involved can not be denied anyway. I do not care whether it sometime in the 70's may have also been a little better! It may be may not be, but everything is a matter of taste, but does not matter! And why should this my current enthusiasm for "The Raven ..." belittle? I am convinced I can enjoy old and new side by side without any problems! Why not? I see no contradiction here, but music is feeling and not head!
We can only hope that the looming commercial success of the album means that this kind quality, lovingly intricate and playful music is finally presentable and other artists and bands, and also the record industry encouraged again more on quality than on plastic music and quick commerce to set. This then would also benefit all stable Proggies that could hear on the radio their Mucke in many varieties and again. But perhaps want this not so? Perhaps it may not be new anymore, that challenges the "Old Masters" ("Everything was better" and "the wheel has already been invented"). I call then conservative values or even music-fundamentalist.
We have until March and there will be a few more highlights hopefully by the end. "The Raven ..." is for me so far but the most exciting album of the year! Full marks *****
