Petrol Blue, with its sober and very successful cover (signed Jérôme Witz) showing Bashung looking almost behind him (which is, therefore, his life), aligns the great moments as a bartender aligns the Munich beer mugs: On A Trapeze I will kill The Pianist (Manset) Yesterday In Sousse, Tant De Nuits, this superb French standard in resumption of Suzanne by Leonard Cohen (Version Anglicized by Graeme Allwright) ... For 50 minutes (pretty much) bashung makes us forget the complex aspect, introspective, difficult to access her previous album (the successful but difficult Imprudence) to return to a style much more in the register of Fantasy Military, its summit in 1998. Petrol Blue is touching, striking, poignant, hard.
The album was boosted by the magnificent single and ripping Residents Of The Republic (another typical game bashungien words, by the way), in which Bashung sings Someday I will speak less, until I speak any more as a kind message, premonitory thought. We did not know that Bashung really was sick, but he, for sure, he would not hurt doubted. Can not say it was his farewell song, his will, his requiem listening to the album. Out of a posthumously, On A Trapeze is another great time tearing (I have always hunted, boneless goddesses / Tasted around frequently changed address, it's also all thinking furiously La Nuit Je Mens 1998). The fact that the album ends on a beautiful resumption of Travel By The Solitaire (and no one forced him to be silent) Manset message is almost over, afterwards: Bashung actually walked away, alone . And damn, what we need!
Remember the last Victoires de la Musique this year where Bashung reaped several statuettes, making him the French musical artist most awarded ...
