Replacement for my Harmony 555

Philips SRU6008 8-in-1 universal remote control (accessory)

Customer Review

After my Harmony has come in the years 555 and unfortunately there is no equivalent replacement device from Logitech, I looked around in various forums and asked around and came to the decision to use the slightly cheaper alternative (to Harmony Touch). Unfortunately I have to manage more than 6 devices, and therefore I ended up at the Prestigo 6008.

The device itself:
The Prestigo is larger and heavier than the Harmony, but fits comfortably in your hand. The display is equivalent and the Rocker Prestigo works beautifully to scroll between the activities. Compared with the Harmony 555 are the buttons on the Prestigo "valent" means the volume up / down buttons and the channel rocker are not "click send" and from "plastikös" but act here better and more stable processes. However, the actual durability must show a long-term test.
Good for me - the 4 color buttons are easier to achieve than in the 555er.

Programming:
Here haperts in Prestigo namely huge. A positive feature is that the online constraint is compared to Harmony, but when it comes to comfort, Philips is lagging behind in my opinion worlds behind Logitech's Harmony. The device selection is rather poor and - what struck me particularly negative - you can not browse through the device databases, but must hope that the database which is suitable. Unfortunately, this worked for me only the TV and the DVD player - but I am convinced that my other devices (not exotic) would also be in the database, I would have here is not to try with trial and error by the database. I then trained using the original remote controls everything else. So be careful when the original remote control is no longer available! Here's clearly deducted from the score for the Prestigo. Positive at the Prestigo programming but it should be noted that in the detailed activity mode may well define complex sequences and edit in detail and they are actually better than the (assistant forced) Harmony programming. Rather ambiguous, is also how "interact" the devices. So I was able to DVB-S receiver output via the AV amplifier I only after several attempts, while the Media Player was a little stubborn, output the sound "by" the TV. I had here the keys separately teach ... So trickery and patience is required when programming ...

Handling:
As with the Harmony can be set up here "activities", but the concept has not been thought of Philips to end. I have, for example, a TV, the toggles by repeatedly pressing the AV button to switch between the inputs to and. When Harmony was set up this intuitive, especially as the Harmony has realized what activity is "active" and currently has then reverted only in case of need. When Prestigo I have this function can not be found and therefore got me for the activity softkeys for input selection deposited (the INPUT button functions will also not like it that is.) Also striking that the "switching" of activity such as SAT to DVD (for example) of the SAT receiver to remain, while the Harmony has just turned off the satellite receiver here, has chosen the entrance and then activates the DVD Player. Here Philips should make improvements in my opinion.
If you have the thing but first programmed clean, you can work just like with the Harmony and perform all activities Based.
The Help function of the Harmony was in my opinion a little thoughtful, particularly as the Prestigo eventually to prompt to connect to the PC, so that one can be helped. So rather pointlessly, when you're just sitting on the couch. But in contrast to the Harmony Prestigo reacts noticeably faster and delivers noticeably faster results, especially since the infrared sequences are also "more" switched when pressed "longer".

Conclusion:
The Prestigo is - for the price - in order. I now do not expect a marvel of technology and am disappointed with Logitech's policy regarding the Harmony range. The Prestigo remote feels valent and works (if programmed). Certainly not as comfortable as the Harmony, but it works. A warning to all buyers when the original remote controls are no longer available, it could be really difficult here, the thing about programming. Too bad that I with my TV (input select) fail here, but that's to get over.
