Eco-Drive
The Eco-Drive turns light into electrical energy, which is as environmentally friendly and economically, because without the need for battery replacement also no additional running costs. Neither there is a risk of damage to the housing through the battery replacement nor the old battery must be disposed of as hazardous waste.
The converted by the solar cell to the clock power light is stored in a secondary battery. The clock has a built-in overcharge protection.
The rechargeable secondary battery is composed of lithium oxide and Titian has typically still after 20 years of a storage capacity of 80%. The secondary battery does not contain any harmful substances which require special disposal.
When the clock light needs this is the insufficient charge warning (second hand moves in 2-second rhythm) appears. The warning is about 6 days prior to the exhaustion of the secondary battery.
After a week without light the clock goes into power saving mode. In power saving mode, a power reserve of two years, the power reserve at full charge (without energy saving mode) is 6 months.
The charging time for a full charge depends strongly on the intensity of ambient light. Outdoors in cloudy conditions is 45 hours. The charge for one day is reached under these circumstances, in 10 minutes. In low light indoors, however for 4 hours required.
Radio Controlled Clock
The clock receives the time signal DCF77 Sendes the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, who is close to Frankfurt / Main. The signal is usually still ensure that you receive up to 900 km, with the maximum Reich manner extends to 2,000 km away.
Through the radio reception the clock reaches an extreme accuracy: the deviation is 1 million years ago only 1 second. The inherent accuracy of the clock, no radio reception, 15 seconds per month (at +5 to + 35 ° C).
Super Titanium
The clock is made of Titanium Super Ti + IP (titanium ions carbide coating). Here, the Titan is equipped with a titanium carbide coating, which is expected to increase, especially the scratch resistance to the five-fold. In addition, this technology allows to gestallten the surface paint almost free. So the clock and the bracelet have a steel look.
10 bar waterproof
The clock is suitable with WR 10 Bar for swimming and snorkeling, but not for diving with oxygen bottle. When considering the watches are not waterproof forever, because the seals may become porous with time. The recommendation is to have it checked the tightness of every 2 to 3 years.
Bracelet
The clock has a solid band with safety clasp the best, still has to be individually adapted as a watchmaker. This is to do it yourself, even with the necessary special tool, not easy.
Indicators
During the second hand of second jumps to second, the minute and hour hands move continuously.
The display of the date occurs with a rotatable disc with embossed numerals, not with a digital display.
The date display will change the day in the course of 10 clock in the evening to 3 clock in the morning continuously, which can, at this time, make it difficult to read the date.
Luminous material
Both hands (but not the second hand) as well as the indices (missing at 3, there is the opening with the date) are equipped with luminous material that at light gathering power and in the dark then, for a certain time, will light up.
Controls
The clock has two buttons and can make a crown to settings. One of the buttons is recessed into the housing and can be pressed with a pointed object.
Crown and buttons enable:
- Making the zero position of the clock (normally this is not necessary)
- Triggering the manual radio communications (automatic daily reception is at 3 and 4 clock)
- Display of reception quality (high, medium, low, no reception)
- Manually adjust the clock (if no radio reception is and beyond the reach of the DCF77 transmitter possible)
- Setting the time zone (the clock then shows systematically a different time than the signal received at, for example minus one hour)
- Indication if a different time zone is set or not
The crown can be pulled out from the home position in two and will turn by then the clock setting permits. However, this is no mechanical coupling because the pointers are only moved electrically.
The attached at the edge of the dial label used, together with the second hand, to display the quality of reception, the manual radio receiving and setting a time zone (deviation from the received time in whole hours).
Delivery
Delivered the clock is in a box with warranty document and instruction manual. Anyone who wants to find out in advance, can see a short version of the user guide on the side of Citizen watch.
The manual is not necessary in most cases since after unpacking the clock automatically goes from the Energy Saver mode. Either a manual radio receiver will be triggered or let the automatic nightly. Setting a different time zone has been declared in five sets, only manually set the manual is really needed.
What can not the clock
While one can determine whether a different time zone has been set, which, however, is not. In addition, a deviation is only in whole hours fixed, so do not geeigent for example, Iran (+3: 30h), Afghanistan (+4: 30h), India (+5: 30h) or Nepal (+5: 45h).
The charging status of the clock stops until the insufficient charge warning, in the dark.
The clock has neither an alarm nor a stopwatch or a timer function.
The glass of the clock is a mineral glass, rather than a reflective sapphire crystal.
The clock can only receive the German time signal, but not the time signal transmitter in North America, England, China and Japan.
Personal impression
The clock looks elegant and carefully crafted, wears pleasantly light and the bracelet moves without apparent resistance. The contrast between the hands and the dial is easy to read, also the date is clearly visible. The clock is so quiet that I can perceive no ticking.
The clock has an ideal size for me and, for a clock of this technical class, relatively flat. Value for money I find fine.
