Backless (Audio CD)

Customer Review

"Backless" is primarily a blues record. Sovereign presents Eric Clapton the first mother of rock music in all its shades. "Watch out for Lucy" and "Roll it" bring juicy blues rock, here and there even with gospel overtones. Behind "I'll Make Love To You Anytime" and "Tell Me That You Love Me" stands for the country blues, in the former case, even written by JJ Cale. "If I do not be there by Morning" can fell as blue-heavy country-rock, like him, the Rolling Stones played at times. "Tulsa Time" is a typical of the '70s R & B and "Early in the Morning" finally thoroughbred electric blues, as it Slowhand had played, especially in the times of the "Yardbirds".
Eric Clapton plays the blues so animated, as after only 16 years later on "From the Cradle". In addition to the Blues Festival was on "Backless" only space for three country-rock numbers, in which at the time made, especially the influence of Clapton's backing noticeable. In Sound of CD prevails muted tension which one is also accustomed by Eric Clapton. Gripping got his collaboration with George Terry, well fitted are the passages that Marcy Levy sings. Glyn Johns has produced economically and Eric indulged enough run.
All in all, a record that still charming sounds almost 30 years after the publication and Clapton even then presents already outstanding capabilities. Of course, the sound has a total of slightly scheduled patina, so the acquisition can only Clapton disciples and / or curious unreservedly recommended.
The comparison with "461 Ocean Boulevard" holds "Backless" In my opinion stand. However, I would like to know who plays the harmonica on the album. The cover remains silent. So ... gibs to Eric. It was you.
