GEN..SISE?

When it was announced a few months ago big, that there would be in the next few days some big news regarding Genesis, to writers raced with speculation. A Reunion, maybe even a correct with all 5, a publication with unheard tracks that had landed in the drawer, some even hoped for a new album. But what came out? A Best Of.

Immediately, all the writers came thick with expressing their disappointment. They had hoped that .. They had hoped that

I think also great-Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett hopes. He hopes that his old friends had become finally get up her ass and you go on tour together. Without Invisible Touch. Without Mama (oha). Although - brazen it already is. How can any of the band members, the manager, I know who believe that a best-of would be exiting for a Genesis fan? There are in this compilation to admire some veeery special: A good third are of the solo albums of the band members !! Wooaah.

That Collins In The Air Tonight had on this album, it was clear that needs no big words. Easy Lover I find cool, not essential. Wake Up Call surprised me. The song is okay, but had little commercial success. Perhaps like Collins song such that he wants to rub him the people after his first start again under my nose, I do not know.

When Hackett, the decision between successful or good songs unnecessary. He shows here rather that it properly, so it can properly play guitar, but not a very good singer (Nomads). Since we had initially made the Gabriel phase the inevitable works Musical Box, Suppers Ready, Cinema Show and The Knife. Carpet Crawl is also back on it, this time thankfully in the (in my opinion) much more beautiful original version of 1974. What Back In NYC is here, I do not understand; the song is good, but there would have In The Cage or Slippermen much liked better. The is on all other collections, live albums, I think here you would rather write a song like Can-Utility, Dancing With The Monolith Knight or Watcher Of The Skies can slap. From the stage trick to Duke there ever a song per album. What is Mad Man Moon? Burning Rope? Or One For The Vine? The ingenious Dance On A Volcano ??? The truly great songs of these albums are here neglected in favor of catchy songs. Furthermore, I do not understand how you can let two ballads follow each other with ripples and Afterglow, where then not taken much longer journey. Also Solsbury Hill and Follow You are just too similar to hear them one after the other. Do not misunderstand, I like all these songs anyway, but because there is simply more essential.

But here's the part starts, which then excites me beyond measure again. Abacab in the original version has always been completely formless (Three Sides Live, people, because we have the definitive version of the song). Mama, logically. Thats All, unnecessary, although nice.

But .. who, who needs three songs from Invisible Touch and I Cant Dance? That the two hits Invisible Touch and Land Of Confusion could not leave, I can still understand. But tonight, tonight ??? That's nine minutes emptiness, showmanship and boredom for me. And for such bullshit One For The Vine is then omitted. Well thank you. At least Jesus He Knows Me is not it. But but the stupid Calling All station. And where's On The Shore Line where is Dreaming While You Sleep?

Via the song selection is, of course, always arguing. But the comments According why the band chose certain songs that are supposed to be represented (yet) completely different tracks. Anyway, it remains of course to discuss what this entire publication is intended at all. The selection of the Genesis song is quite similar to the Platinum Collection (2004). And the few songs the solo careers of Banks, Collins, Hackett, Rutherford and Gabriel justify not publishing a complete new best of box for me. People that buy I you simply do not off.

My advice to anyone who wants of Genesis a Best Of: To me their Best Of is compressed in the albums from Nursery Cryme to Wind & Wuthering. Of course remains the killer argument that R-Kive still gives a nice overview of the work of Genesis. Blah, I hate that phrase. But somehow he must indeed with pure when it is not completely outlandish (He is the way, for example, in Genesis Hit Collection, complete rubbish album.).
