This first volume is as a police investigation where Mercy Thompson finds investigator. The latter is a woman of character who will not let go, despite being surrounded by "Alpha" dominant werewolves. Moreover werewolves Patricia Briggs are governed by strict rules and are also very powerful. Mercy, in addition made it can turn into coyotes, seems endowed with magic gifts she can not control. (This lets consider that we'll know more in the next volumes.) In this book, the events are linked together by alternating action and revelations without dead time despite the somewhat confusing early history. Thereafter each character fits into the story and origins, past Mercy are revealed. So gradually we are captivated by the investigation by the vicissitudes of Mercy. But I liked this first volume, I find that something is missing in the story ... a "whatever" ... However, this book is a good book of Urban Fantasy.
