After escaping to Dr. Hatch and society Elgen, Michael and his friends know that they are not completely out of the woods. They are hunted down and have nowhere to go. Dr. Hatch holds Michael's mother, and Electroclan is determined to help the young man to find her. Their investigation takes them in hostile places, and they'll do terrible discoveries ...
As in the first volume, we go quickly into the heart of history and in the heat of the action. The events are linked together without dead time and I did not bored for a second. Indeed, the plot is done well, until the last page.
As the name suggests the novel, we find ourselves in the clutches of the enemy with Michael and his ten comrades. The group of friends going to lead a real fight, they will not give up and will go up to throw himself into the lion's den. They will live difficult tests, both mentally and physically.
In this sequel, narration alternates and integrate the enemy camp. This allows us to learn more about them and the mode of operation of Dr. Hatch and Elgen society. We plunge into the horror and we discover the extent of the cruelty of Dr. Hatch and his followers (although we had already had a glimpse in the previous volume). It's terrible, and often it is cold in the back.
********** End of potential spoilers.
Given the multitude of recurring characters (they are more than a dozen) I was afraid not to attach myself to them. However, it was the opposite. I was delighted to find myself among them and although some have my preference, I enjoyed all follow because they all bring something to the story.
Ostin is one of my favorite character. Whenever it proves to be a real asset to the team of electrical. As for Michael, he remains true to himself. He is a hero and a leader despite himself, desperate to save his family and help his new friends.
I found this second darkest opus. There is less humor (obviously, given the events), but I was not especially disturbed. Written by Richard Paul Evans has other qualities, and he thrilled us all the way along with its characters.
To conclude, "In the claws of the enemy" is an excellent second volume. After presenting the essence of his world in the first game, the author signs here a novel full of twists and focuses on the development of his characters. The end is brutal and leaves us unsatisfied. I can not wait to find out what does the author in the third book (due in August 2015, still with Pocket Youth).
