Lens and focus
The lens is a wide angle light, there is an angle of almost 90 degrees achieved. There is a digital zoom, which allows you to zoom back (at the cost of resolution) and move the picture also. This is also automatically using the "Face Detection". This push and cut are automatically adjusted so that it will be reasonable moves into the picture. That's a nice feature, which works quite well. Although the zoom is only gradually switched, but as long as you do not just around gymnastics front of the camera, do not mind.
In contrast to the very cheap Webcams these has here an autofocus, so you also can sometimes show a smaller object or a document, for example. This works correctly up to an object distance of about 10 to 20 cm - including not just the software usually, find the point of focus. But if you want to actually approach in exceptional cases sometimes so close, you can also adjust the focus manually using a slider down to about 3 cm object distance.
Exposure
The white balance works well and brings into existence by lamplight a suitable color reproduction.
The exposure has - as with many other cameras - overexpose a clear tendency, bright areas. This is particularly evident in the video telephony, which for me the main application of this webcam is at least. One sits in perhaps 60 cm distance in front of the camera, his face lit by a lamp or the light incident through the window, while the background is relatively dark. Since the face fills only a portion of the image area, the automatic exposure control fails completely, the face is exposed mercilessly, the skin appears pale or completely white. A good exposure should detect and prevent this problem - especially for a camera with face recognition should not be so difficult. Under normal digicams, even at the very cheap models, the exposure can be manually corrected after all (+/- Av or correction) and thus prevent overexposure.
This option is missing in the Logitech webcam, you can simply turn off the automatic exposure control completely. But that's not the solution, because then the camera no longer responds to changes in brightness. There remains only the background illuminating correspondingly bright - but who wants to be active as Raumausleuchter before the Skypen first time? However, I do not want to mention that the above problem does not arise in a total of brightly lit room or outdoors.
The photosensitivity is fine, but at normal indoor lighting significant artifacts due to noise reduction are in the image to be recognized. But the buyer of a webcam should be clear that this can substitute a normal digital camera also not nearly as regards image quality. Although you can set a resolution of no less than 8 megapixels, but that you should forget it again, because it only leads to a larger file, but not to a better image quality than 1 megapixel.
Microphone
The camera has a built-in microphone, which works well and just for video calling is very convenient.
Software - I almost forgot it:
The mentioned by some reviewers problems with Windows 7 64bit are (currently V2.51) apparently resolved in the current software version - at least I did not have any trouble with it. The software is easy to operate and self-explanatory.
The price (at the moment about 37 EUR) is ok in relation to other Webcams, even if you can get a lot more technology and image quality for your money when buying a disproportionately favorable digital camera.
But that is probably in most webcams that.
On the C 525 HD Webcam is quite successful, but due to the mentioned deficiencies in exposure control is limited just for video calling usable. After videotelephony probably the main application is likely to be of most buyers of a webcam, I have to deduct 2 points for this.
