I just got this new album Youn Sun Nah after reading a glowing review in the very Télérama magazine. What a nice surprise! Savvy friends had advised me to listen to his music, I dragged a bit, but I must say I was quickly won over by this record (in fact I just ordered the previous "Voyage"!) . Youn Sun Nah seems to approach all genres effortlessly, with that voice so surprising, bright and crystal clear, with no effect, without swank. Youn Sun Nah immediately catches the listener and seems to get his attention almost magnetically. The best tracks on the album are the breathtaking "Breakfast in Baghdad" (what virtuosity!), "My Name Is Carnival" (a magnificent crescendo while controlled power), the poignant "Song of Helena" (rediscovered ), and the exposed version of the standard "My Favorite Things" that almost makes you forget John Coltrane, is saying! In short, a success from start to finish, with sober, minimalist arrangements, and musicians who know just when to shine and where to. Enter the world of Youn Sun Nah, you will not regret it!
