A few years after the release of disappointing homecoming, Double Helix Games Team gives way to Vatra Studio. The objective of this independent studio is through a complete overhaul of the HD series by offering the player a Silent Hill quality in lined its predecessors: successful deal. Vatra here offers a brand new Silent Hill, which made a clean sweep on the recurring problems that had managed to repel us in the Homecoming. With a scenario that certainly does not transcend the codes of the genre but is still in the highly immersive background, we travel with a sense of curiosity this misty and mysterious city that is Silent Hill together with a new protagonist: Travis, an ambiguous and spiteful man. Unlike previous characters we met in the first Silent Hill, our beloved Travis has no connection with the city and desperate to flee. Thus the frame is not based on twists and the gradual discovery of the links between the character to the city as we had seen before, but on the nature of the hero, classic character, a prisoner of his past and along the game, is like us intrigued and astounded. The further we go and the more we learn about the character. I will not say more at risk spoilier but I can clearly say that the key advantage of this Downpour is its innovative scenario.
New monsters come to appear but despite that it is a pity that Vatra is not thought to vary the bestiary: we almost always find the same creatures and at the character design is quite approximate. Same for weapons. The quests are interesting and lengthens the service life but are too easy, like the rest of the game from elsewhere. The only form of this difficulty in this Downpour is the confrontation with the monsters. The puzzles are, for me, for all scopes. Like all Silent Hill different purposes are available to us so encouraging us to restart the game to discover them.
The pros:
- An immersive storyline that is based solely on the character and its evolution during the game - The atmosphere - Despite the departure of Yamaoka Konami, the soundtrack is superb - The quests - In continuation of his ancestors
The -:
- Shifts a bit heavy - Repetitive fighting - Excessive simplicity in riddles
