Ruined Heart - This Here Defeat - Bittersweet - Palace Of Tears - who previously knew Scott Matthew and still takes a look at the playlist of his latest album, gets equal any idea in which direction it (again) goes: Matthew shows in the world, what a beautiful gems can produce melancholy and Weltschmerz, if an esthete will manage them. Moving around although always a fine line, slide off the other in the kitsch, but Matthew meets the challenge with confidence. Cello, violin, piano, guitar, ukulele and French Horn accompany the Australian case. Loneliness, loss, separation, despair and death are the themes of the elegiac album, sometimes as grave speech to his late grandfather (ODE), sometimes with the winking pathos of Belle and Sebastian at Song BITTERSWEET: "and you stop and I start / to prepare for a broken heart now / let's agree to disgree / and you can sail to shore as I drift out to sea ... ", to which he finally even elated whistles! When he sings lines like "Come All Ye Faithful / the wrecked and the woeful / please find me and lay me to rest / to rest" (RUINED HEART), you want to take the man in the arm and comfort her, but then he pushes a almost potential hit to Blues, where it comes that he will devote a bygone lovers definitely not a song. Yet Matthews acts despair at the world and the people at any point than attitude. The songs are well arranged (Only the strings!), Voice (s) and instruments in perfect harmony and make for a thoroughly enjoyable and touching album, one that slows the world - the best thing that has so far to offer 2015!
PS The vinyl is only marginally more expensive than the CD - it's the shekel free with it. An unbeatable offer!
