Connection to the computer
The hard drive is connected with a Y-USB cable to the computer. This means that you need two (!) Free USB ports. For this, however, the hard drive needs then no further power connection.
My computer has recognized the drive quickly and the plate was ready.
Use of hard disk
The plate has a triple protection. Whether this really holds in an emergency, what do you expect, I can not judge, because my plate is not yet fallen down (thankfully). And I do not want to test that too absolutely. ;)
The speed of the disk I have not tested. However, I did not feel that the disk is slow, but with sufficient speed reading both, and writes.
For noise, I also want to say something. If you do not excessively burdened the plate, you (almost) does not hear it. But even under heavy load it is not much louder, so (very) is also quiet. However, the volume feeling is very subjective ...
According to Transcend, the plate can also be used on Mac. Since I do not own a Mac, I can not judge this. But she runs with me both under XP, and Windows 7 very well. I had no problems so far.
Extra features
Auto-Backup: For the Auto Backup can be found on the front of the round button. However, to use this, you must install the software from Transcend, which is stored on the disk. I personally do not need this function. However, I think this is a useful feature for people who want to use the disk as a backup disk.
Power Saving: The board has to Transcend Information on a Power-Saving function. That is, if you can not access some time on the plate, it goes into power-saving mode. If you then access the disk in my Transcend hard drive is ready for use without any noticeable delay.
Again, let me say that one does not necessarily have to install the Transcend program, and also has other functions, which I do not need, and have thus not been tested.
I have here but also give you a few important notes:
Note: For me, the hard drive was formatted as FAT32 on delivery. Also Transcend delivers on the hard disk with a program to format the hard drive. When I tested this formatter, then the program had hung with me. After several successful test runs loose, I have finally formatted with Windows NTFS disk. Those who want FAT32, so it should not necessarily try the hard disk formatting, or you have a program that does that. With Windows it does not go in any case.
Note: As mentioned earlier, the hard drive takes two free USB ports. Anyone who does not have, should rather buy another disk. The hard drive can also be operated on a USB hub, provided they hold a power supply. An USB distributors without power supply, the hard disk does not work (for me).
Note: Due to the byte conversion disk only has about 930GB space. But this is completely normal. But you should be aware!
