I read for the first time this author. Excellent find! This book compiles genres and themes that attract me. Thriller, mystery, conspiracy, scholarship, Devil, etc. Corso's character is interesting, the perfect anti-hero. The medium in which the plot is located is already fascinating in itself, bibliophile, old secrets and cursed manuscripts. The atmosphere is strange, the convoluted history as it should, the obviously false leads and the inevitable surprises. The whole is an unpretentious gem no scholarly, accessible, and skillfully led abounding.
The film by Polanski (The Ninth Gate) I have a vague recollection that I had loved but is of course a very incomplete adaptation, and I am pleased to have largely forgotten, because I would missed out on the book, much pus deep and complex. However reading me want to see the film.
In any case for the book, it's the good, the beautiful, intelligent!
