Last week I ordered exactly the stick again. Because of my positive experience I had hoped thus to have a useful gift.
As here already mentioned in other reviews, the key is functioning fully inserted not!
The stick is 1-2mm withdrawn reliably detected.
This issue affects me only USB 2.0 ports (but then also equal to all ports on all the PCs that I could find), to a USB 3.0 socket on the stick is always reliably detected.
Compared with my "old" stick apparently the plug has been changed.
The new connector is a bit shorter, also the USB 3.0 contacts are now almost too long (2.9mm vs. 3mm max. Loud USB.org, formerly the times 2.4mm).
The new contacts are deeper in the plug and are smaller.
Whether it actually is now at the contacts or running anything else wrong, unfortunately I could not figure out at 100%, even though I've tried a good hour with tape meter and various bushes, to find an explanation for the problem. To crack me the stick was then, however, be a pity.
The USB 3.0 abzukleben contacts does not help, they completely insulate the connector brings no improvement. A short-circuit on the data lines so I would rule out.
I suspect the error in the form of USB 2.0 contacts, because these are in the plug back further and additionally shortened by about 0.5mm.
According to the USB standard, these contacts would have to 5,65mm wide project (measured from the front edge) in the plug. In fact, however, they already disappear after about 4.9 mm in plastic.
The contacts in the connector could therefore actually "behind" slip the contactable area. If you pull the stick around 1-2mm slip the contacts superimposed again and everything works.
Generally I would recommend Fa. Transcend, sometimes to read at USB.org specifications.
The new connector has to offer a few more inconsistencies, such as missing a guide for the socket contacts completely.
But the thing is probably cheaper to 0.05 to produce, the end user is advised then "plug it wrong.".
Unfortunately, return is not worth for the price, I would then sit on 3.50 shipping bleiden ...
