I would add that the magic of Proust also comes from what we re-opened our eyes to the complexity (and therefore the beauty) of life. The stereotypical modern life tends to simplify everything and thus everything fade. Proust we re-teaches that every detail of life are the fruits of a thousand hidden complexities and it goes even beyond the depth of what we were barely conscious.
There is also the beauty of sinuous style that Proust can not be found anywhere else.
I just had the experience of reading a novel by another great writer between reads Proust: What it sounds bland! Yet it is another writer that I love.
