I am neither a sympathizer of other manufacturers still I'm too stupid to tag my mp3 files tidy.
All the more it annoys me that the EX2 on DNLA devices in the "Directory" view plays the stored on the NAS songs in alphabetical order. Not so - what do I Tagge my music - as befits as specified on the original disc - using the standard "track number - Title" if the EX2 the track numbers completely ignored and yet again by all songs in alphabetical title order by numbers, but by Name?
A playback sequence according to the original track number (rather than according to music tracks) is - according to WD Support - said to be working in the "Artists Index" view.
GREAT, WD! And what, pray tell, is the artist index teach samplers or Compilatioins where 'tens of different performers sing their song?
Apart from the correct playback sequence in the "Artists Index" is obviously true only for selected devices. On my Samsung Smart TV (but the TV all the songs alphabetically) works, anyway. Obviously holds the WD Samsung Smart TVs for non mass-market "niche products". This error is still GREAT, WD!
Enough bitching? Not yet - there is namely even thicker; and for the following reason:
On many other NAS systems (also on previous WD products!), You can manipulate the "view-definitions.xml" the integrated Twonky Media DLNA server so that the playback order of songs and their track number (and not the alphabet ) corresponds.
The WD will obviously prevent, because to manipulate the view-definitions.xml (this is actually only a minimal change within a text file required) have to be modified at the EX2 the complete firmware manually and re-play. Incredible? But true, see for example here:
[...]
(Or google for "Access to Twonky Views Folder" if the link does not work).
This is really the pinnacle of grandeur WD!
Not only that,
a really natural playback order is not provided virtually in its original configuration
and
a really natural playback order works in the original configuration only in exceptional cases
- No - in the EX2 Your prevented even that
a really natural playback order in the original configuration itself can be "reconstructed" by an equally benevolent as dedicated users !!!
Due to this restriction I feel as a customer ultimately completely kidding before - especially the problem of the correct playback sequence is discussed all over the world for years of NAS users (google times for the keywords NAS Track Order - brings over 8 million results!) ,
Long story short: If not soon an update (currently 1:05:30) is the fact that finally the songs sorted correctly in the List view, thus meeting a really banal customer requirements (which can be factory-incidentally satisfy even with minimal effort) is, the EX2 my opinion the fastest "Ex" (- girlfriend) of all time - and in all likelihood not only for me.
Many Greetings,
Zill
