If Julie Kenner still uses here a couple protagonist often encountered recently in this type of romance, dark billionaire hero, powerful and sexy with dark secrets associated with beautiful and tormented heroine, she does it with a certain originality with in style of writing completely different and far for a female character from the classic mental and physical perfection.
Damien Stark is a former professional tennis player who left the game a long time and has embarked on an investment career in which he excels, it is an arrogant man affair, ruthless and dangerous. The Damien obsession is Nikki Fairchild, former beauty queen who perseverance to successfully escape the clutches of an abusive mother to study, become assistant in a start-up computer, it meeting at a party the powerful businessman for whom she feels an immediate attraction. They have met many years ago and we soon discover that Damien has always kept a coup d'aeil Nikki from the moment he saw it for the first time.
Follows a passionate relationship made of high and low because Damien is very possessive and protective, it attempts to manage and control the lives of the young woman about this she tries to fight against this incessant interference but a losing battle as her slave to her desire for him. Both have a troubled past marked by a difficult childhood with authoritarian parents, they have managed to get by but are deeply bruised. Face to face they lay bare, they are meant to be together, but equal vulnerable.
It is a well constructed story that mixes a passion, skeletons in the closet, hidden behind painful memories of a perfect facade. Julie Kenner is doing very well with a very thorough job of character to renew gender, sexual scenes may not be very original but sensual and warm. What's also different from other opus, is the slow construction of the sexual relationship between Damien and Nikki, the tension mounts notch by notch through language, speak it, and touch by judiciously using the famous portrait is much more exciting than the direct dive into bed after a few chapters.
My title and the three stars are explained by two things that disturbed me to fully appreciate this story: use of vulgar and crude words which I do not see the point and the lack of warmth in the relationship, c is sometimes a little cold.
