Phil Collins had already shown early 80s with his debut, on which high degree of independence and creativity he decreed in compositional terms. Collins has here truly an album of a piece presented: spherical, detail and mostly melancholic. Because he rarely goes so peppy to works like the opener "Hang In Long Enough". Songs like the pensive "Something On The Way To Heaven", the hopeless romantic "I Wish It Would Rain Down" or the classic "Another Day In Paradise" create a relaxed, often even dreamy atmosphere. It drifts "... But Seriously" but at no time even begin into kitsch from what is firstly attributable to the more distanced lyrics, on the other hand certainly an apathy specifically employed at times in Collins' voice. With "... But Seriously" the ex-drummer has finally cemented its independence and to cut the cord of his band, with whom he just should not import another album. In addition, its still best work next to "Face Value". (This is an Amazon.com at the university-student review.)
