Positives:
- In most cases (see negatives) the image quality is excellent and made prints really show the great potential of the unit. The quality of pictures taken in low light is especially entirely surprising;
- Once the machine set according to user preferences (for me: Image size M, DR 400%, Auto ISO 800), the X10 is easy to use and is forgotten through good ergonomics;
- The operating speed is very good with a good discriminant and fast AF and a fairly generous buffer. The write time on the card are rather short in jpeg and remains acceptable in raw;
- Excellent finish on my copy, no dust in the lens or viewfinder, and even less on the sensor;
The Bad:
- Photographing reflective surfaces (chrome, glass, ...) in the sun or in the shadow light sources (lamps, headlights ...) is a nightmare! The reflections give rise to large white circles sometimes edging very little natural black that can be very intrusive and sometimes ruin the picture! This phenomenon is well documented on Internet forums (look for the terms "orbs" or "WDS" on the English forum) and Fuji is supposed to work on a solution, but if that does not happen, it is a very serious handicap for X10. Basically, in the present state of things, the X10 is almost incapable of photographing a scene in the sea if the sun is reflected in water or a street in the cars which reflect light ... embarrassing. ..
- The organization of the menu is fairly intuitive ...;
- To come to reinforce the previous point, the user manual is incomplete and you will be hard pressed to know what types of settings are mutually exclusive, which falls frowned on the implementation complexity of the EXR technology: Fortunately, the Internet is there to inform you!
- The battery is in the low average: better to have two.
The final impression which thus emerges is that of a beautiful casing, pleasant to use once you have understood the intricacies, with great image quality ... so that no reflective object n ' is in the field!
Damage Fuji, it was almost perfect ...
(Note revised down a notch following the failure to correct the problem of "orbs" in the latest Firmware Update)
