I have this line viewfinder now for almost a week and I am very satisfied after some initial difficulties. However, one should be clear that you should bring a certain expertise on the subject line search and basically boring and secure - that has something to do with it not only to catch any line, but catches more like when assessing the fabric and the proper selection of mounting hardware , Who knows anything about drywall and a device examines what it indicates where it can drill should simply stay away from the project and to first acquire knowledge. Some reviews on this product I had the impression that the writers did not bring those same expertise ...
1. Getting started
This point is really the only downside, which I have to give the device so far (at least mine). After commissioning, the unit had virtually everywhere found metal - a look at the manual led eventually to the point that the unit is not calibrated correctly may - why it makes no difference occurred in my device beyond me, and in some other reviews I have feeling that it is just as occurred ... So it seems to be more an increasingly emergent problem which is dealt with in the manual but rather among the also-rans. After execution of the automatic calibration function of the unit, however, was in line with expectations.
Unfortunately, the manual does not provide a quick overview, but must be read in its entirety as between Trivia important information (see, eg, point 1 of me). A simple overview table for troubleshooting, such as common in many devices would probably very helpful to many users - must instead be looking up the information and to be alerted it that the device is not to be wet: /
2. General Handling
The handle is a unique selling point of the device - this I have unfortunately missed eg 10 push the Bosch Blue brother DMF. Are well thought out beyond the ability to illuminate the display, the sound on and off and the round opening at the sensor for Marking out drill holes. The belt bag there's also - in this respect I find the device more than satisfactory.
2. Search of metal objects
It is important, as some others have done, to have the detection depth of the unit in mind. 100mm in 80mm-ferrous metals or non-ferrous metals at correspond precisely a thin wall - if behind it stands a large area metal, it can lead to detection, although in the wall is not. To locate the metal exactly, it is necessary to drive 3 times back and forth - looks from the side maybe stupid, but works quite well in practice. Very good I think the distinction between magnetic and non-magnetic metals. In connection with the very good localization (the size estimation allowed) helps assess this information with appropriate experience, what you have just found there.
3. Search by lines
Who gets a continuous flashing with this equipment should again read the manual - a wall can accumulate static charges, resulting in incorrect measurements. These erroneous measurements are highly reproducible in certain substances wall if you do not puts a hand to dissipate the static charge on the wall according to the instructions.
Very good results you get with a loaded line, so if flowing a somewhat larger current through the line (for example, filed a LED spot does not from a rather unfavorable lying line under voltage to detect the connection of a vacuum cleaner to the test, however, brought a reliable detection in the same line). Otherwise, the results are rather poor, but what I personally find better than the result of some other line detector, which indicates the line 1m wide. Overall, you should leave here the expertise exercise and make do with the metal search mode, very reliably detected the lines regardless of the current flow.
4. Wood Mode
With this mode, I've made no experience. Since the well common reason to want to find wood, searching for rafters is, but I can contribute a little tip:
If one does not find the wood mode, one should seek the metal mode to the screws that are used for securing the sheetrock on wooden beams. A test well with
All in all a great device if you do not want to rely on the installers that they have already used the correct installation zones (just in the old building a damn bad idea!) - But you should keep in mind that it is accurate metrology, act the precise requires. Again, the old principle of electronics: Who measures much, attaches crap!
Update: Allen users / inside, despite reading the manual does not have the feeling to get correct measurement results, I can only strongly recommend the Bosch hotline to call and to consult once more before you start to drill holes (and ireversibel a line or even a water pipe caught). In the manual a 0180 number is called, however, available on the website quite prominent Stuttgarter a landline number that is to be staffed weekdays 8-20 clock. A landline phone is certainly cheaper than an electrician or plumber! A link to the website is prohibited in reviews as well as a mention of telephone numbers - that's why you have to try yourself ;-)
If someone can write down their experiences with the hotline in the comments, I would be very grateful :)
Drilling should be found on the site only if the unit lights green. In yellow or red should be left there, or to know exactly what you're doing!
