Having a compact expert there 3 years, a Lumix LX3 Panasonic, who passed definitively after an unfortunate fall, I had bought a Lumix TZ20 replacement, not wanting to put 400 in a camera.
However the disappointment was great, because of a very noisy in low light sensor and a lens with a weak opening (3.3-5.9), albeit with a powerful zoom but I was using actually too little.
I wanted to wait for the new Lumix LX7 with the brightest market objective (f: 1.4-2.3).
After the 1st Internet tests, which clearly showed the limitation of use of a sensor size smaller than the RX100 1 inch, it is on the latter that I turned. Although the opening of the RX100 (f: 1.8-4.7) is lower than the LX7.
I do not even talk about the race for pixels which is no longer a criterion for obtaining good photos.
Upon receipt of the RX100, I was not disappointed! What stung for a compact!
And the pictures in low light are simply bluffing: A ISO1600 and aperture F: 1.8, the trigger speed never falls below 1 / 30th of a second, which allows taking indoor photos that are not blur. The large sensor does its job and thermal noise is almost nonexistent.
In macro mode, the dive at ISO80 although surpasses reflex with a basic goal. Zeiss has done a good job on the lens.
The autofocus and tripping is instantaneous, it finally retrieves instant facial expressions equivalent to a DSLR in portrait mode.
The screen is very good and very comfortable: the lack of optical viewfinder is fully justified my taste.
The ergonomics of the settings is excellent and very quickly found there. The ring around the lens is customizable and convenient to use (can be a little hard to turn, but you get used to ...).
The downside comes from the grip. The device is very small and a semblance of former growth front would not have been useless, in addition to the existing small rubber to put the thumb on the back of the device. That is why I chose to buy the holster Leatherette that allows to grow a bit the size of the unit. This case really fits him like a glove and saw the price of toys, good protection is essential to my senses.
The second drawback of course is the price of the device: the price of a medium-range SLR (Canon EOS 600D with 18-55mm eg) !!
So above all, it is the choice of use that we want to do.
For my part, compactness, weight and so being able to take it everywhere prevailed over the rest.
For the lucky, this device is a great complement to an SLR.
For fans of the perfect photo, go your way, nothing can replace a good SLR with a good lens.
And for those who have a comfortable budget and want a camera that can take everywhere, while having the closest photo quality of a DSLR, please do so.
