Menabo Brio aluminum roof rack rail support 120 cm 90 kg TÜV / GS (Automotive)

Customer Review

I will support the return after two days test, although it is roughly equivalent to my rather low expectations (for cheap), but not my claims. Although he is after all, cheap, but I would want to use it for several years, and the regular, I fear for so einen.Träger I must spend more.

Nevertheless, positive first:

- The carrier looks reasonably well, and has everything you expect from a carrier: non-slip rubber, a 20mm T-slot, and (in my car) safe clamping feet.

- The support could be in my car (Suzuki Grand Vitara I) securely mount alone and with little effort. I chucked him properly and then along the car he tried to move, which I succeeded only with great difficulty. Yet he did not leave any marks on the rails on the roof, the fixing claws are so adequately provided with soft and anti-slip elements.

- The delivery took place within a few days and in very good packaging. How well the return run remains to be seen, I report if applicable wenns hooked.

Then what I liked less:

* The vehicle starts on my car from 60km / h annoying whistling. Well, wind noise does a roof rack always noise I had accepted, but it must not howl or whistle, and that must not be. With everything I could have lived in view of the low price, but loud whistling from the roof ... so I do not like not driving around, even longer distances.

The essence of a KO Kriterums is that you then do not have to continue to discuss, and who are in a hurry can stop reading here.

What else is so struck me:

* The carrier is supposed to carry 90kg. I weigh 91 kilos (currently, I am working on the problem). So I'm in the center rose to the support plan. Carefully, and ERT once only with one leg. Even at relatively low weight shift to the aluminum support arched significantly. I have it then can be, wanted to return and not to ruin him yes. He holds probably 90kg if you spread the load on the beam width. Furthermore, it was not specified whether the 90kg to apply to the individual carriers or the couple, the latter would mean that one should weigh each carrier only 45 kilos. This then would have rather approach the suggesting my little stress test.

* I am the carrier drove exactly one day in the rain, and then another day when the sun shines. When dismantling I've noticed that the screw spindles have already recognized rust inside. Here avenges the windy trim, with the feet are fitted (see below). Who the carrier should therefore longer and wants to go even in the rain or in the wash maintain the spindles from the outset on a regular basis, for example, with motorcycle chain spray grease, otherwise they inevitably rust in the shortest possible time. After all, it is easier to approach the spindles, because the bottom cover has a huge hole.

* The feet cling on some kind claw on the roof rack firmly, which is tensioned with a screw. In my roof railing I have the claw about 3cm together or apart to turn the carrier to assemble or disassemble. Inside there is apparently a normal 08/15 screw with 6 or 8mm thread. A quick adjustment does not exist. The pitch of the thread is located after standard at about 1 mm or a little more - so it takes about 30 revolutions around the carrier to stretch or relax. Four times, for four feet.

* The plastic end caps are made of very thin plastic, firstly, are second only plugged "friction", and third, popping the carrier feet when they are relaxed, it once you hold the carrier wrong. This has a cap blown off with me immediately. The caps will go in my opinion, soon lost, no later than when they are cured something after some time. You could stick of course, but then you can not switch between T-slot mounting and rubber pad, because you have to pull off the A / ejection of the latter, the end caps.

* 20mm T-slot sounds ever very solid, but then come to the support of four super cheap, filigree tees with, which you should take advantage of the groove. I had wished for more solid clamping devices.

* The locks have no bilateral / symmetric key, so you have to look only times like around you plug the key. Then the locks hakeln significantly. The keys themselves are from billigster execution, and can not be pulled off when the lock is open. So you can not do without it, even if you do not fear the theft of the vehicle. Without a key, the support is not mounted.

* The anti-theft protection, the only one foot per carrier, consisting of a thin plastic plate which moves in front of the mounting screw. I guess I could do it effortlessly with the Allen key, which you need to support mounting, broken. Note: Just time enough, who should really be afraid of theft or vandalism, gets here rather than a visual anti-theft devices.

* The Klemmenchanismus is faced with a two-piece, approximately triangular plastic cover that probably somewhat protects it. However, it has a huge bottom recess, the interior has been (because only) insufficiently preserved on my first and last rain ride with this vehicle before splashing. The cover is durchgenietet only one place and with very thin walls, in the new state already gapes at the separation point a clearly visible gap. The whole thing feels very shaky and not just to invite, the carrier entrusting larger loads, and it protects the interior does not dry.

* The clamping mechanism is driven as a central component of an Allen screw. A matching, overlong Allen of billigster execution (beveled 6-square steel piece without handle) is. Since the width of the roof railing is my car at about 1m, I did not have the problem that the Allen wrench will not turn around because he is present at the crossbar. For narrower car you have to eventually get a longer key, or cut the aluminum rails of the carrier. The key could be only very fiddly and unplug: when plugging one notices that the screw head of the clamping screw and the hole in the cover, through which you have to insert the key, are not connected to a guide, one has a while blind in supporting foot poking until sometime meet in the screw head. Furthermore, the end of the allen wrench is hardly trimmed let alone chamfered correspondingly poor it can be plugged, and he also caught like when pulling out. And he probably scratched the screw head - as already the spindle has been shown to be susceptible to corrosion, is also likely the screw head if you do not is sprayed him with something, soon fall victim to the Gammel.

Conclusion: I give the carrier a few years until it breaks down or rusted. For occasional use, such as for a single holiday trip per year, it will be enough to look after it well (terminal screws protect against corrosion, always good attention to the end caps, Allen key if necessary to a better exchange), and if you can well distributed weight you probably trust him with the 90Kg. That leaves the whistling noise with which one had to live. I transport my part on the support sometimes narrow loads such as boards or beams, and every few weeks, I would like him quickly fitted and removed without much tweaking can. So I give him back, and look at the next more expensive copy. Until I reach the 300 euros that retrieves Thule for its top model, but should be found for my needs something useful.
