Scope:
This model is suitable for rooms in private households according to the manufacturer. Unfortunately, however, lacks any indication of how many liters of air for now actually be filtered per hour. The course also depends on the selected speed of the fan. For us the unit has taken 30 minutes to transform a space of 20 square meters of red (very dirty) in blue (clean). The unit was in this case set at full capacity and there was a low hum. Later, when the room was blue, we have switched to silent mode, then the fan was slow and barely audible. A comparison of volume and air flow rate with other devices is not possible because the information be withheld.
Filters:
The filter system of this model consists of a HEPA filter and an activated charcoal filter, which can be bought for about 80 and are very easy to change. These filters seven air, so that all particles are the larger 0.02 micron, collected. Soot particles, pet dander, pollen and many allergens are larger and are collected. Also, most bacteria are larger than 0.02 microns, so that the air is purified also by bacteria. Viruses, however, are often the root cause of respiratory tract, are much too small for this filter and are allowed to pass. However, this filter system has not only a screening function, but it can remove its coating also volatile organic compounds such as aromatics (odor-), as well as formaldehyde. Whether viruses are captured, I have not figured out.
There is no air ionization at the Philips air purifier. There are several manufacturers that offer such air purification systems. In this ionization occur negatively charged ions and it is unfortunately also the emergence of harmful ozone promoted. Before ozone formation so you are protected at the Philips. However, the device can also not high ozone concentration, as occurs on hot summer days cut. Secondly, no moistening the air takes place at Philips; So it is not a device to dry heated air.
Personal experiences:
I have the equipment after delivery unpacked (Frustration Free Packaging) and equipped and built in the shortest possible time with the included filter. The trial run was held in the children that we did not enter because of a short break for 6 days and had not been aired for 6 days. To my initial surprise, the device showed blue immediately, ie completely clean after I had it turned on, though I felt the air than a little stuffy. Then I opened all the windows in the nursery (we live in a small village nestled in the countryside), ie aired vigorously and the unit immediately turned to red, so very dirty around. I myself felt the air now, however, as a pleasant fresh and no longer sticky. I run the display change to the fact that a lot of pollen, dust particles and the typical smells of the country air has been spilled into the room through the air. I then closed the window and the door again and after about 30 minutes the kids were blue again.
In summary, one can say that this device apparently reduces particulate matter and the allergen load of rooms. Whether this leads to a measurable improvement in the health or well-being, I do not know; I doubt it, however. All the more reprehensible, I find that the device is delivered with as little tangible data (cleaning performance, noise, power consumption, average filter life in operating hours, etc.
