Design and Control:
I like the 3DS in color 'Aqua Blue' very good. A quality image despite the plastic panel and the shiny surfaces. Only the slider for the 3D mode and the volume are a bit rickety. In the arrangement of keys has changed very little in comparison to its predecessors. Very successful is the joystick on the axis intersection. This was missing the game console. The handheld has a very coherent in itself!
Display, cameras and sound:
The display is very sharp, especially compared to its predecessor. The edges look very smooth. This impression disappears once you have turned on the 3D effect. Suddenly there is strong edge flares. As you think about it but twice if you still use the 3D effect. Unfortunately, the device is in the open air, to use bad in sunshine. The brightness of the display is not sufficient here. It looks as good as anything in dark scenes. The 3D effect does not work anymore in direct sunlight strangely.
The cameras are not qualitatively very high quality and possess all three 0.3 megapixel. That's definitely not enough. The photos taken even become blurry and out of focus on the 3DS screen and are really useless beyond. Pity! At least the two front cameras deserved 5 megapixels or more. The 3D effect is good rübergebracht, where I think there is still space up there and can be made of it more!
The sound is very good indeed. It all sounds very clear. Bass is lacking, of course, but is not necessary. Who it's too little, can still insert earplugs. Although Dudel chants of Nintendo's games are not really sophisticated, the sound is still good.
Short to Battery. This is very good for my mind and keeps really long. Only the 3D effect requires the handheld in this respect from a lot. Something I find unnecessary the supplied charger. You can charge the 3DS even without the plastic drum rum.
Software and menus
The menu system is strongly reminiscent of Nintendo's Wii. But I like it very well. Easy and intuitive. Once you have selected a 'menu rectangle', you can view next to the Start button on the manual. Good idea, but if should still be somewhat unclear. The 'multi-tasking option' which is called by the Home button does nothing in the end. Alongside current programs do not exist. The call of a new program causes the current is terminated. The effect looks after all pretty.
With the supplied software you can pass the time entertaining. Long-term fun and motivation does not come on. Mainly in the AR Games the wow factor at the start is really big. Looks great. Face Raiders is a fun pastime. But is rather aimed at the younger generation. Nintendo 3DS Sound is not really mature. Do not understand why photographs can be taken only in a length of 10 seconds.
The Internet browser is well done, loads relatively quickly and has to control really well with the joystick. The split screen this does not really bother. Between the previously opened pages can change with the L and R button. Good Idea!
Conclusion
I can issue a strong buy recommendation here despite some criticisms. Through the 3D effect Nintendo a good throw is managed here. One feels even more of the action. The games are great fun and the console is not just for children. The master stroke is not the 3DS. But Nintendo is determined not to wait long and bring the 3DSi on the market. Bought is then determined!
