Beauverger is for me a real discovery, a revelation. I admit I was deeply disappointed in contemporary French SF in recent years but randomly literary conversations, I started on the reading of this novel. The narrative context did not favor a priori, ranging caribbean during the wars of the 17th century. I have all subsequently conquered by writing and narrative bias: a naval commander who wrote her diary. Just like Willis, Beauverger uses the time travel theme to describe a historical epoch bit stressed. But unlike Willis, style, if much less ironic, maintains the action and suspense. The plot and narrative context are at the Simmons or Vance Productions. With "The Déchronologue" Beauverger settles among the masters of the SF.
