When four years ago Michael Giacchino has been selected to add sound to the reboot of Star Trek, I could not imagine a better composer. Meanwhile, there are unfortunately very few composers who I trust a decent score! And he did not disappoint when its score was not quite up to the aforementioned predecessors.
The CD to the newest beast I had six days ago in the mailbox, the day before I saw the related film on the big screen.
The film I liked very well, just like its predecessor. From the music I'm a bit disappointed.
The CD starts quite promising. The first track "pranking the Natives" is very reminiscent of "Nailin 'the Kelvin" from the' 09er music and makes you feel good. The following four tracks offer anything particularly interesting.
Only in Track 6 "The Kronos Waits" you will be carried away again. As to music, the scene on the Klingon homeworld Giacchino here is strongly reminiscent Eidelmans procedure in "Star Trek VI".
Then prick only Track 8 "Ship to Ship" and track 12 "The San Francisco Hustle" out of the musical monotony.
Clearly not enough highlights for a round listening experience!
Better than most soundtracks nowadays the score for the new Star Trek movie is definitely, but to its predecessor, I would have expected more. Maybe the score also needs to put only a few months, at first impression (I've heard so far, the CD three times) we have here but around the uninspiriertesten Star Trek score for "Generation"!
