I bought this to use with media trigggertrap. Indeed, it is difficult to operate the foot on reflex with the iPhone attached to a short cable. Thus supported, it is easy to make adjustments on both the iPhone the DSLR. Then if it is for the time lapse, the system is in place and is stable. I'll also use it to drive the distance lapse and again it is better than the iPhone remains bound to the SLR.
