I'll probably inveterate SIMS fans do with my criticism no favors, but it comes to me in this review in any case more to the clientele of the "New buyers" ... Now for "The Sims Deluxe": At first glance, a flawless, incredibly interactive and "quasi-infinite" extensible persons simulation. As I said, at first glance! At second glance, however, is clear: "The Sims" is more illusion than reality! A sham. - Real interactivity is not available in this game! Discussions under the ledge around, can not generally influence (Not even the talking points are selectable) - for me the shortcoming par excellence! - Most actions lead to a secure and predictable result. What you want, you can always achieve and enforce sooner or later ... which of course is far from any reality. (And this game will actually be realistic) - Unfortunately, there is no "real" 3D world where you could select the perspective freely and continuously. The game is not really 3D! This reminds then very much of oldies such as "Theme Park". - After a short time (1-2 game days) raises a certain "daily grind", because quite simply nothing new happened in the house. Even if you look at the hard-earned money makes something (eg a spa bath) also loses the fast appeal. A simple example: Why climb the SIMS always with the same sequence of movements in the bathtub? Why are there not 3 or 4 different motion paths that are selected at random? These are the small but fine details that make a game varied and interactive. (And I say this not only because I'm studying computer science ;-)) - A little realism: the alternation of day / night is really uninspired. And there are neither seasons nor weather influence. - The "marriage" is made much too easy. Some clicks suffice to appease the parnter. In contrast, character, skills, communication skills or even professional success are not or only barely relevant. - All the many "Expansion Packs" strong odor of money making. Such a thing can be because of me free offer to download but not sell as separate games. - Unfortunately, children / young people can "SIMS" not much to learn for life (although this would be really close to such a game). On the contrary, much is simplified, trivialized or idealized. Educational? Unfortunately, only limited! General Conclusion: Good interactivity it is (if any) probably give in software only in 5 to 10 years. Who would like to experience at least once "a touch" of interactivity, should take a look for example Ultima IX in 2000! (A masterpiece - until today there was nothing like it more.) Of course: The idea behind "SIMS Deluxe" is wonderful - no question! The game comes just a bit too early.
