Customer Review

As Wolfgang Haffner Music simply titled CD was released in 1999, was the Ambient-oriented, melancholic primed NuJazz sound that characterizes his recent publications (Round Silence, Heart of the Matter), already developed by groups such as Groove Armada. But Haffner, as though he had not yet recognized the signs of the times, indulges here a provocatively hedonistic Smooth Jazz and Party Funk, with the avowed Mezzoforte fan catapulted into the aural terrain creepy art Popper parties in the early 80's back. Titles such as Coconut Kiss, Simple Life or Miami Beach speaks for itself, just as little surprise participation of Haffner Metro colleague Chuck Loeb and Mitchel Forman. More likely, one wonders what Charlie Mariano has lost in these watered-Fusion rhetoric. Perhaps corresponds to the heard here 'Music' even more the affirmative temperament of a musician who is also for DSDS studio jobs not too bad, as his later publications, and his abilities as a drummer should neither be denied as the cleverness of some arrangements, but does not vacate the from the unfavorable feelings that creep a while listening to such outrierter insouciance. It acts like an escape in times when Al Gore's 'inconvenient truths' of the presence still seemed to lie in the distant future. The Melancholy of Heart of the Matter, so stylish dressed like them come along, but sounds as contemporary.
