Here briefly the pros and cons that I could festellen during use:
Pro's:
- Good battery life with AAA standard batteries (use current Sanyo Eneloop 1900mAh)
Navigation for many hours with one battery set (2 pieces) without any problems. Batteries can be easily replaced if necessary.
- Simple Montagemoglichkeit by bicycle holder (accessory retailers)
- GPS receiver with high sensitivity
Also works well for. As in the forest.
- Functional diversity
Routes with waypoints, tracks, standard navigation (from A to B), etc.
- In spite of the now weak processor relative fast recalculation during routing
- In conjunction with Mapsource easily maps from the open source community can be used, eg "Openmtbmap" for's hiking and cycling.
Con's
- Rubber coating dissolves after a short time, especially at higher ambient temperatures in summer
Has often been criticized here. I have the sheath of completely dissolved and glued with Pattex Repair Extreme. Since it considers optimal.
- Something unconventional routing
Routing I plan usually on the PC with Mapsource, incl. Milestones. Unfortunately, the routing routine untscheidet the eTrex from MapSource, where it then in the eTrex
to sometimes strange turns "please contact" with comes. That is, with planned routes with interim targets should check the route before you travel to the eTrex
and if necessary change the / the corresponding Wehpunkte.
- The display is with a diagonal of 5.5 cm is relatively small
If you still working with the displayed data fields to shrink the map display on 4.8 cm diagonal or smaller.
All in all I can recommend the eTrex. Especially for motorcycle, bicycle and hiking.
For the navigation in the car, there are clearly better alternatives.
