Fantomas - antihero of the eponymous French novel series and criminal leader of a relentless struggle against bourgeois society, quasi the "Lord of Terror". The perfect idea template for Mike Patton's previously most radical child and at the same time again Allstar project because with Buzz Osborne (Melvins) on guitar, Drum Master Dave Lombardo (ex-Slayer) and Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle) as butcher the deep sides, are once again just as experimental as experienced band members on board. Was the debut still as a soundtrack-like sound collage - without real songs - to view, is a concept now out of style. And so all the proven components meet once more on the basis of the musical madness together to assault the classics of film soundtracks. The 16 songs are stripped down to their skeletons in order then again - to be stapled together - more or less recognizable again. Of course, all the way to in-band performances and the aid all sorts of musical genres, and even some grotesque style means more. However, the former are, at best, means to an end: in a saucepan the band not only noise, Black-, Doom and Death Metal are stirred into a colorful concoction, but also refined sorts of indefinable noises and bizarre sounds. Finished! The actual flavor the mixture then obtained naturally through the unparalleled vocal sensation Mike Patton, is whether sonorous narrative, screaming, bawling, howling, grunting, or for that matter, rapping, always master of the situation. Striking: Harmony approaches and melodies remain this time, 39 minutes tonal destruction, not just wishful thinking. The Broad templates are safeguarded and complement each other perfectly to a rollercoaster of emotions. Experimental and inaccessible? Well, Patton raped here probably the most well-known musical conventions. Not many artists are able children melodies with Black Metal and the soundscape of a 30 year old B-movies to process in order still to knit a crude rap from it at the end. However, even to appear authentic in some bizarre way - that can probably only the master himself hackneyed (self-) ironic and uncompromising brutality.. Trash and innovation. Contradictory as the fictional character and somewhere far away from the recorded musical cosmos. Brilliant!
