KISS UNMASKED (1980) is widely regarded as one of the weakest KISS albums. This results probably mainly therefore, because the album was released at a time when the genre Heavy hardness was equated with quality. UNMASKED is certainly quite a level of commercial and poppy than its predecessor DYNASTY, however, convinced compositionally my opinion wholeheartedly! With "Naked City" (one of the best Simmons - compositions at all), "Tomorrow", "Your All That I Want", "What Makes The World Go Round" and especially the three Frehley songs "Talk To Me", " Two Sides Of The Coin "and" Torpedo Girl "bursting UNMASKED only seems like tracks with catchy melodies and enthralling hooks. Add to this the completely successful cover version "Is That You" as crisp opener and the single "Shandi", which is almost knotless Discofox and so die-hard KISS fans might have encountered even more on the head than the year before, "I Was Made For Lovin You ". But objectively speaking is Shandi a little stroke of genius Paul Stanley, which thus once again proved that he is just a great songwriter who is able to cover a lot of styles. Ever one for me UNMASKED in this context to the best mainstream rock albums of the eighties! As on some KISS studio albums before, on UNMASKED not everything is as it seems, while Peter Criss still grinning from the cover cartoon, but played a single beat longer on the album. In Shandi PAUL STANLEY is the only member of the KISS studio, Ace Frehley plays his songs except the drums all the instruments himself, Gene Simmons stirred the bass only with his own songs, the rest was shared by Frehley, Stanley and producer Vini Poncia, the highly self also grossed all keyboard parts. UNMASKED is generally considered flop, but this is not really true. In the United States slid UNMASKED with approximately 500,000 copies sold compared to the multi-million sellers DYNASTY, ALIVE II, LOVE GUN, ROCK`N ROLLOVER, DESTROYER and ALIVE, while decelerating significantly, but half a million are still at a lot of wood, and outside the US, mainly in Europe and Australia, the disc sold like hot cakes.
